Well I will never root for UND in anything in the future. Same goes for FSU if they ever drop their name. I used to be a Stanford fan when Plunkett played there but after they dropped their name, never again.

What does Presbyterian have to do with this?

I think RTF was delivering a bit of subtle humor.

A little too subtle apparently.

"It's not an easy step," His Horse Is Thunder said. "And it is full of controversy. But I think every great step in this country was filled with controversy ... The civil rights movements in the '60s didn't happen with a whimper."
He just compared THIS to the civil rights movement? What a joke...

His Horse is Thunder would be a great name for a linebacker.

This doesn't really bother as much as it would have 20 years ago.

Hey, we can just call the indian nations, "he who complains about name being used for great honor and daring in warfare on sports field" or "sits at home like squaw crying over name while real men gain glory"

either way. it's about right.

Why? The article clearly states that this was decided by the state board and the NCAA. The university was actually resistant to this move.

As I said if any U changes their names for whatever reason dealing with pc, I will no longer support them. Does not matter if they change it because the NCAA or some state board says to do, once done, no longer will I root for that school

Just outta curiosity, how do you feel about W&M arguing to keep the Tribe, which the NCAA let them do, but acquiesing to removing the feathers from the logo in the name of PC?

I dont like it if that is what W&M did, bowing down to pc

What if they had changed the name of the school or changed the color scheme on their uniforms because someone esle told them to? Would you not root for them then? It amounts to the same thing.

Apple and oranges, now colors are going to be pc. Or names. Either way if it is done because of pc then I am againist it. I hope I made that clearer for you.

It's still silly. You would rather a school go against the governing body and not have any chance of postseason play just because you don't like PC things? They didn't want to change. They did everything they could not to change.

I'm against all of this crap of changing from Indian names, but I really don't think a school that you've most likely never given a dime to cares if you root for them or not.

Im still offended that New England can call themselves the Patriots.

It's all just window dressing on the school you choose to root for, regardless of the reason you root for them. You may as well only be a fan of teams whose names might somehow offend someone.

Despite being completely confused by the title of this thread, it's cases like these that make me glad for a team mascot that's so bizarre that it couldn't possibly offend anyone.

lol that was a good one

but seriously, if i was native american i would probably be offeneded too. i dont mind the states or ncaa making teams change their names. I mean some teams use the names in good taste like FSU. i believe FSU and the Seminole tribe have cut some kind of deal where FSU donates money and scholarships or something. But I mean, the Cleveland Indians logo characiture of an Indian? I think its time to update that. and im a diehard Redskins fan, but seriously, REDSKINS?? how in the world have they been able to get away w/ that this long haha. You can call it PC or you can call it being respectful to a race of people and catching up with the times.

The Redskins actually just won a big case. The judge ruled that because the 'Skins would lose millions of dollars with a name change, they could keep it.

Ah, the requisite loose woman joke. No one has ever made that connection before. You, sir, are a pioneer.
