Pretty interesting story with the whole UVA coaching search and the thought of McKay joining the staff at UVA.
The Cavaliers then turned around 15 days later and announced the appointment of Bennett, who received a five-year pact that will pay him $1.7 million per year.http://www.accsports.com/articles/20090 ... ennett.php
The contract also contained a $500,000 signing bonus and a $500,000 incentive bonus, payable at the end of five years. Depending on who paid Bennett’s $400,000 buyout to Washington State, which may have been covered by his UVa signing bonus, the head coaching position is going to cost the Cavaliers between $11.6 million and $12 million over five years.
That doesn’t count Bennett’s staff. In an unusual revelation at his April 1 news conference, Bennett named his first assistant coaching target, two-year Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay, whose resignation at Liberty hadn’t even gone public yet. Presumably, McKay did not come cheap.
