Sports' greatest rivalry returns

"Is there anything less musical than the sound of the common declaration that Duke vs. North Carolina is the greatest rivalry in college basketball? Hearing those words spoken is like a meat thermometer shoved in your ear.
Anyone who has done any study of the subject recognizes this is absurd. North Carolina vs. Duke is not the greatest rivalry in NCAA basketball. It is the greatest rivalry in American sport.
Ohio State vs. Michigan? Two "mythical" national championships between them since 1970.
Yankees vs. Red Sox? The Yanks lead the competition by 215 games and 19 championships. If that's a rivalry, so is Godzilla vs. Tokyo."

The media will tell us this is the greatest rivalry in sports... until the Yankees and Red Sox meet in Spring Training, at which point, that will be the greatest rivalry in sports. And if the Celtics meet up with the Lakers in the finals again, that will become the greatest rivalry in sports... until its Yankees / Red Sox again in September, and ESPN vs. Cognitive Dissonance the rest of the year.

That's actually a pretty good rivalry when you think about it: both teams are really good (both are normally in the top 10 every year), the teams hate each other, the fans pretty much hate each other (on that day at least), and the two teams have produced some absolutely classic ODAC title games.

I wouldn't have said it had I not meant it.

Yes I know, I think some other folks on here might have took it as a joke though!
