Bill Raftery
Jay Bilas
These 2 are in another world of sports announcing. Everybody else doesn't have a clue.
I also like Phil Sims. There's also a guy who does both football and college basketball who screams the play by play for anything average and above. I can't think of his name though and I've spent the last 10 minutes trying to look him up. He works for CBS and seems to do a lot of Bills games. He's entertaining because everything seems so excting. ROSCOE PARISH DOWN THE SIDELINE! ROSCOE PARISH ON THE 2 YARD RECEPTION!
i loveeee Schikman, a homer just like he's supposed to be

I can't stand Harry Kalas on football games.
Best announcers: Vin Scully, Gus Johnson (when appropriate), Keith Hernandez, Marv Albert, Kenny Albert is okay, Joe Buck (but not for football), Troy Aikman does a fine job, Gary Thorne for hockey, Ian Eagle, James Brown as a studio host, Bob Costas when he doesn't have to appeal to the dumb viewer ("did you ever wonder why they call it a foul pole when it's in fair territory?"), Cris Collinsworth (but not on the NFL Network, he talks too much there), Al Michaels, and Jim Nantz.

Kalas doesn't announce football games, he's just the voice of NFL films.

Marv Albert is a testament to just how much it takes to destroy a career.

Kalas does national broadcasts for Westwood One. When I ran the board for a local sports radio affiliate, I had to suffer through him every Sunday.

You're exactly right about that Henry, Troy Aikman does a good job. He's the only guy who can weave a triple negative into a sentence: "I'm not so sure that if you don't get it here that you don't call timeout."

Anybody seem to think Aikman is pro Philly in his announcing?

I really enjoy Vern Lundquist, Bill Rafferty, Jay Bilas, Joe Buck (when not doing football), Ron Franklin (does a great job covering college basketball and football for ESPN), Tim Brando is great on FOX Sports ACC Sunday Night Hoops and I think Mike Tirico does a good job on ESPN as well.
Can't stand
Phil Simms
Jim Nantz
Billy Packer (thank God he retired)
Tom Hammond and Pat Hayden on NBC (I love Notre Dame football but I've never been able to figure out why the network that broadcasts EVERY home game would hire two guys that sound like they would give up their firstborn child and one of their legs to see the Irish never win another game)
Mark May on ESPN makes me want to punch a hole in my TV
