man, winthrop's 3 point line is invisible. Who's idea was that?

Yeah it feels odd pulling for Winthrop. It's almost impossible to do.

WU 61 UNCA 41 7:50 left

I think I'd rather see WU get out of sync now. I'd hate for this to be some kind of confidence booster or turning point or something.

Announcer during the game last night: "With VMI's loss this afternoon they are no longer undefeated and maybe not the best team in the conference. The way Winthrop played tonight they are the team to beat."

That's typical of the current WU mind set. They have the best talent in the conference, all the bad games they have had are anamolies, and this win means everything that was broken is now fixed and they will dominate from here on out.

Winthrop does have the best talent in the conference, however their lack of a true post this year is going to hurt no matter how much the chemistry improves.

But you can't blame the announcer (which game?), the WU mindset has been accurate for 10 years.

lack of a true post? In the Big South? Yeah, that's a recipe for failure.

How could we forget Realist that the Eagles are playing this year without the great Andy Beuchert and his 3 (countem) 3 points per game! :rofl

I haven't looked at the stats from last night game, but it seems like WU was making a bunch of 3's. If they're able to shoot like that they can beat anyone in the conference, but they've only been able to shoot like that twice all season.

I've never been impressed with your ability to understand the game oldflame. Beuchert's value wasn't in his offensive production, it was in his rebounding and defense. Offensive production was only a value-add. And the fact it would move some other players to their natural positions.

WU didn't take many threes last night though they did make a better percentage (those probably will go hand in hand), they won by finally figuring out how to pound it in and create low post baskets against a zone, and turn defensive stands into transition points.

As much as I love to hate on WU, you guys did look very good last night. You've got a tough road coming up and it will be interesting to see how you fare on the road.

So a team that struggles to get to 50 every game needs a post player for more help on D.

I'm not even impressed with my own knowledge of basketball Realist. Most of the things I post are just digging up stats, pointing out the obvious, or trying to be a voice of reason amongst all the young guys here who tend to overreact sometimes.

I'll give Andy credit for his 3.5 rebounds/game last year. Pretty impressive for a "true post." Tied with your point guard for 5th on the team. The more athletic bigs playing that position for you now are better basketball players than Andy Buechler.

You just don't get it, or pay any attention to WU games, which I can't blame you for since you are a fan of a different school.

Winthrop beat us. How can we say they're not the team to beat until we beat them and they are no longer conference champions?
Yes, they're having a horrid year, but until someone else wins the Big South tournament they are the team to beat.

Not if you ask Chuck South.

Despite their horrible start, it actually is possible that Winthrop could win the BSC tournament and go to the dance. This is the reality of life in the Big South. However, before everyone says they are playing much better based on the UNCA game, keep in mind that just 3 days earlier they lost to G-W by 15 on their home court.

And so far the only team to lose to HIGH POINT!

You could have waited until after tonight to say that if it’s even true anymore.

thought about it, but screw that if i jinx the team. they can play the game and decide for themselves if they want to be the 2nd conference win for high point. I'll be there to support them though
