Yeah, the season has certainly given reason for a great deal of pause. Who would've thought five years ago that the Mountain West would be head and shoulders above the Big Ten, Big East and ACC conferences?

1 team. So maybe just head but not shoulders.

Look again ... TCU is head and shoulders above the rest of the leagues and BYU could've possibly won the others as well.

...and Texas barely squeeked by. Perhaps if OSU wouldn't have choked the last two minutes away, you're singing another tune this morning.

I really dont think the MWC as a whole could be better than those three conferences...now one thing you ofter heard about the SEC teams was that there are troubles with defense. South Carolina got beat by a very good Iowa squad...Georgia won over Michigan State (but really all they have is Ringer and not much else beyond that). really the only truly good defensive performance was Vanderbilt but really Boston College missed soem real great scoring opportunities. and Alabama who was #1 for much of the year got housed by what I think is an underrated Utah team. Is the MWC better than the ACC, SEC, Big East, Big Ten and ACC conferences? Id say not top to bottom necessarily. the MWC had three good teams this year in TCU, BYU and Utah all of whom could have made a lot of noise in a playoff if there was one. I dont think the conference as a whole is significantly better than the BCS conferences in this discussion.

I do think the MWC is head and shoulders above the Pac-10...they OWNED the Pac-10 this year.

and all three of those teams would have made a "hypothetical" playoff if it included 64 teams.

haha, 64 team playoff for football.

I think a 24-team would work. Top 8 seeds receive byes, all 11 conferences get an auto-bid, leaves you with 13 at-large bids.

The Pac-10 is better than the ACC, Big 10 and Big East. Just to name a few.

Umm, nope. USC might be better than everyone in those leagues, but the ACC sent as many teams to bowl games as there are in the Pac-10.

Pac 10 finished a perfect 5-0 in bowl games this year. I enjoy talking trash about the Pac 10 as anyone else on this board, but they performed this year and it wasn't just USC.

Conference Schools Record Percentage
Pac-10(5) Ariz,Cal,Ore,OSU,USC 5-0 1.000
SEC (8.) Ala,Fla,Ga,Ky,LSU,Miss,SCar,Vand 5-2 .714
Big East (6) Cin,Pitt,Rut,UConn,USF,WV 4-2 .667
Big 12 (7) KU,Mizzou,Neb,OU,OSU,Tex,TT 4-2 .667
C-USA (6) EC,Hou,Mem,Rice,SMiss,Tulsa 4-2 .667
MWC (5) AF,BYU,CSU,TCU,Utah 3-2 .600
Independents (2) Navy,Notre Dame 1-1 .500
Sun Belt (2) Fla. Atlantic,Troy 1-1 .500
ACC (10) BC,Clem,FSU,GT,Mary,Miami, NC,NCS,VT,WF 4-6 .400
WAC (5) BSU,FresSt,Haw,LaTech,Nev 1-4 .200

you can't really look at just bowl record to determine what conferences are better simply because some conferences have more favorable match ups then others...I don't have much to say about the PAC 10...but I still don't get how anybody can say the MWC is head AND shoulders above any of the major conferences...sure there top 3 teams would do pretty well in those conferences...but what about the rest...they would all be bottom feeders, and to me having 3 very solid teams doesn't make you head and shoulders better
