It makes money. More than any other team in the league, there are fans in every state that claim the Cowboys as their own. Their season was a disappointment because only a Super Bowl ring defines a Cowboys season as successful. The Cowboys are to football what the Yankees are to baseball. You love them or hate them. Jerry Jones is to an NFL franchise what Mark Cuban is to the Dallas Mavericks. Jerry Jones is a business person and he knows football. He is the owner and if he wants to have his hands in it, it's his money, good for him. Don't be a hater. If you don't like it, go make your first billion, buy a franchise, and stick your hands in your own pockets. That will probably make you feel better about it.
