UNCA 21
Ohio St. 27

7 min left in 1st half......they r talking bout how Winthrop is picked to win Big South and they (Big Ten Network) think they will......have they been watching the same Big South we have

I wish we could get a non conference schedule like UNCA has at least when it comes to Montreat, Coker, and Cincy Christian....they played Tennessee, Duke, and now Ohio St........all nationally rank

UNCA is on a nice 6-0 run

Coach B has always scheduled 4-6 big time games for us each year since he's been at UNCA- we've slayed a few dragons the last 12 years- but mostly we take our lumps!! Like tonight yet again.. Our overall record takes a bit of a beating but it has always seemed to help us during conference play.. plus since we have no great facilities to speak of- it helps us in recruiting since players want to compete in these types of games..

65- 39 with 8:11 to play.. We're getting killed on the boards!!

Even UNCA doesn't want a non conference schedule like UNCA. They do it for the money................period. It's good to test the waters at a higher level, but getting your butt whipped game after game is not IMHO conducive to future success. 3 step down games is probably one too many, but overall, I think our schedule has enough difficulty, especially with so many freshmen. I think in the next couple of years we'll be more mature as a team and Richie will step up the difficulty of the schedule.

Yea that has been my only critique (the strength of are non-conference schedule) the last couple years.....I mean I wish we could get back to the non-conference we had the last time we went to the NCAAs......

On another not Kingaling..... J.P. has impressed me

Sure $$$$$ is a big part of it & years like this we do take our licks-

However- UNCA wasn't get blown out last year if you'll recall.. we lost to V Tech by 14 (without Kenny), lost by 13 to Tennessee, lost by 12 to Carolina, & beat South Carolina by 3.. I wouldn't say we have a history of always getting our butts whipped even with this type of schedule- plus we didn't schedule these games thinking Kenny wasn't going to be part of the team, etc.. it's easy to sit here now with our current team saying- "what were they thinking?" Lets see how conference plays out, before judging the effect of this brutal schedule...

I was responding to oldflame's comments about UNCA not even wanting our current schedule- I think it's too early to say that for sure is all.. Not being confrontational, just saying...

Regarding JP- I really like him as well- he was a HS football quarterback so physically he's ready to play at this level & shows his leadership- He's aggressive on offfense which we need this year as scoring seems almost painful at times- as other guys develop hopefully, we'll see him look to set up his teammates more & run the offense better.. no complaints though- he is the nations leading freshmen in assists currently..

Crazy that the Big South has the freshmen scoring leader in Curry & assist guy in JP- lots of battles for those guys to come!!

Not judging kingaling. Just pointing out why a schedule like that wouldn't necessarily be what a coach would choose for a situation where the athletic department is not relying on the money from those gaurantee games to pretty much fund their entire operation. UNCA handles it well. Like you said, they have pulled off an upset or 2 and been competitive in some others, and coach B seems to know how to get them back up after the inevitable beatdowns.

OK- my bad for the side rant then oldflame!! Eddie's job is probably as much to bring in $$ as it is to be successful, so it's not a ideal situation for a head coach- but as Eddie is well-respected in the ranks he get's games without any real problems- we get about 6-8 guarantee game offers every year & then have to be selective from there- playing teams like, UNC, Duke, NC State, & Tennessee really do help with recruiting guys in our main recruiting areas as well- kids want to play on those stages!!

Final score
UNCA 59
Ohio State 83 (I had predicted 78-54 so I had the differential!!!)

There were a couple of years around 2000 and 2001 when UNCA started out like 1-11, 2-9, etc...but managed to finish in the top 4 of the conference. That was the core group with Andre Smith and Ben McGonigil that ended up winning it their senior year.

The best way to get your RPI up, and the way the Missouri Valley became so good, is scheduling lower level BCS schools and then Conf USA, A-10, etc schools and actually win a couple.

My bad king I didn't see olldflame's post......and I too think Curry and J.P. will have some good old guard battles and look forward to it ;-)
