Boston College, Virginia Tech ticket sales low for ACC title game

Both schools have 10,000 tickets allotted for the ACC championship game, and as of today, Virginia Tech has sold 3,000 and Boston College just under 2,000. That's according to both schools' sports information directors.

I'm still waiting to hear back from folks in Tampa about how their ticket sales are doing for the general public.

maybe swofford finally gets it but he still has one more year in tampa. the roanoke times even had an article on hokie fans saying they would rather go to the bowl game instead of this game, but if it was in charlotte VT would have sold tons of tickets. the ACC has put this game in non-ACC markets and it's just not working. on the game...snoozfest, the hokies came to play. congrats to them and on to the orange bowl.

well the way the noles and canes are playing you floridians will not care for some time. the game belongs in charlotte and in 2010 it will be there...hopefully for good.

both florida state and miami are on the rise once again...but I agree, Charlotte is more of a central location for the ACC

bigsmooth you are right. The game should be more central to the ACC. The 'Noles and the 'Canes will be much improved and it will be fitting that those two teams will be playing in Charlotte in 2010.

uhhh you were the one you said how UNC was on the rise....yes they improved, but not that much.

I think they are with a healthy T.J. Yates at QB... The D is really young and they have a very good class coming... The Question is whether or not Butch Davis will be there in a couple of years...

I can't see Butch leaving. The ACC isn't exactly the cream of the crop in football--but unless a Texas or Oklahoma comes calling, where does he go that's an upgrade?

UNC has invested a lot in to its football program. As much as it pains me, it's def. a program on the rise.

The entire ACC is on the rise in football. This year there were no terrible teams...no super-great teams, but even Duke beat an SEC team.

its still not a strong conference, no doubt, but i think overall this year saw an improvement...that doesn't mean its great or anything...but come on, it has gotten better

Just a couple of years ago the league had VT, Miami & Wake all in the Top 10. Look around now.

I am just talking compared to last year...last year the conference was terrible...

Considering the fact that the lowest rated ACC team is #51, yes.

Yeah, VT, Miami and Wake were all in the top 10 one year and this year no one is in the top 10, but at the same Duke and UNC were in the bottom-100.

The league has 10 teams going to a bowl, thats the most of any league ever.

The ACC has improved this season. When those 3 teams were in the top 10, the rest of the league sucked. This year, the race for the ACC championship was wide open towards the end of the season. Just look at the mighty SEC vs. ACC this season:

Duke 1-0 (Vanderbilt)

Florida St. (0-1) (Florida)

Georgia Tech (2-0) (Mississippi St., Georgia)

Miami (0-1) (Florida)

and look how generally mediocre the conference was:

10 nowl eligible teams, and only four won at least 8 games, and 8 wins is lucky to get you ranked. So basically, the ACC has four teams who would barely get ranked or would have a longshot at getting ranked, them a bunch of mediocre to bad teams filling the rest of the conference. Improvement? yes, but let's not kid ourselves here, the ACC is by far not an elite football conference still.

Sorry, folks, but the ACC isn't improving. Sure, the bad teams are becoming mediocre but the good teams aren't really that good and they're starting to slide. The only ACC program "on the rise" is Duke and that ain't sayin' much. If you want to look down the road, NC State will be decent in two years and maybe FSU if Bobby does that program a favor by keeling over into his Cheerios one morning but UNC and Clemson are so overrated it's not even funny.

See, I hear 2 different arguments about the acc & it's improvement.

In basketball, I hear "the ACC sucks....all you have is 2 top 10 teams in dook & Carolina...everyone else is average."

In football, I hear "the ACC sucks.....you don't have any top 10 teams.....everyone is average."

To me, the rationale in these arguments contradict each other. I say that ACC football is improving because so many teams are getting better. Now, none of our teams are going to be competing for the BCS championship this season, but I don't that makes the ACC a weak conference.

dook is "on the rise" but to say that UNC is not is laughable. As someone who has been to, watched, or at least listened to a majority of UNC football games for 25 years, & given the suckitude that was the last decade, I can assure you that UNC is "on the rise." Just look at the rankings of their incoming classes signed by Coach Davis, for example. Don't get me wrong, UNC will not be playing for a BCS championship game anytime soon, but we're not playing in the annual Toilet Bowl like we did under Torbush & Bunting.

Plus, I don't think Clemson is overrated.....everyone knows they suck right now.
