The new BCS rankings just cameout and annointed the Sooners the new #2 ahead of the Longhorns.



Are the voters not familiar with 45-35 in Big D? It wasn't that long ago.

The only chance the Horns now have of playing for the national championship are for the Sooners to somehow lose to Mizzou and then have the Horns move up to #2 in the BCS rankings. What a mess.

Yeah, this is pretty ridiculous. How could the AP poll have OU over Texas? Really?

I am not a Longhorn fan by any means, but this is a total joke. I hope Mizzou pulls off an upset and sends the Sooners to the Holiday Bowl or something...

the AP poll is idiocy, however, the USA Today Coaches Poll also has Oklahoma ranked over Texas...

Oklahoma had a convincing win, to say the least, over the Red Raiders two weeks ago and it looks like that's what did them in. oklahoma also won big over ok state while texas squeeked out a win against them. each team beat kansas, but oklahoma beat them when they were ranked.

The BCS seems to have a "What have you done for me lately" mindset...and whipping A&M (something Miami can also do) apparently does nothing. Sorry Sly.

an analysis shortly before the wake forest vs. baylor game coming on in a few minutes just said that it was the computers that gave the #2 slot to oklahoma because texas actually gained ground this week in totl points in the harris and usa today polls.

Why play head to head, if it doesnt matter...that's unreal to me

I absolutely love controversy about the BCS. Until there is a playoff that produces a true champion, I encourage college football ranking anarchy.

Keep in mind, this was not specifically a BCS controversy, but rather a Big 12 controversy. This was a 3-way tie, not a 2-way tie. If it was a 2-way tie, it would have been decided by head-to-head. Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech each have a record of 11-1 (7-1 in the Big 12). On October 11th, Texas beat Oklahoma 45-35 (played at a neutral site in Dallas, TX). On November 1st, Texas Tech beat Texas 39-33 (played in Lubbock, TX). On November 22nd, Oklahoma beat Texas Tech 65-21 (played in Norman, OK).

The Big 12 has stated they will review this process after the season. In all likelihood, it will be changed. What would your proposed changes be? According to your proposed changes, who would be the champion of the Big 12 South, Oklahoma or one of the Texas schools?

I agree with the comment about BCS controversy. I think there's been MAYBE 2 seasons since the BCS's implementation that there hasn't been controversy.

I hate the BCS as much as the next guy, but playing devil's advocate for a bit, if they ever did go to a playoff system what is going to stop controversy from happening when they leave a team out that deserves to make it, the same kind of thing that happened to us?? no matter what, there will be controversy.

Leave it to the Big 12 to screw things up with a total lack of common sense. The SEC has a better system...to where if teams are within 5 spots of each other in the BCS...it reverts to head-to-head.

I was going to bring up what Postman said earlier. You would still have controversy with a playoff system because you left this or that team out.

That's true except for one thing. I don't think anyone on here thought that we had a legit shot of winning it all. The same can't be said for Texas.

very true...which is why the BCS is flawed...

but sometimes I think people think if we went to a playoff system everything would be perfect..it would be better...but the way college football is set up, it is hard to make a perfect system...

...and we, of all people, know how a playoff system doesn't necessarily sort everything out correctly, either.

The basketball tourney has 65 teams, and there is still a big fuss over who should or should not have gotten in. The difference is that none of the "bubble teams" have a realistic chance to win it all, whereas in an 8 team football field the 9th team might actually be capable of winning.

The computers use strength of schedule as part of their calculation, correct? So if OU plays OSU the same week Texas play A&M, I would image OU's strength of schedule just went up, while Texas' went down.

it won't be perfect, but it sure as hell would be better than the Bull Crap System.

Why doesn't the Big 12 just revamp and put Oklahoma in the north confernce, then this problem can be solved.

That would be making the assumption that Texas and Oklahoma will forever be the two powers in the conference. What happens if Nebraska returns to its glory days?
