Oooph. Tough break (literally). He can still redshirt, right?

..and they keep on coming. Ed Davis and Deon Thompson starting at the 4-5 still puts this team in the top-20, easily.

And as a Duke fan that pains me to say. Meanwhile, we're still trotting Lance "I can't make a shot from beyond 3 ft." Thomas and Brian "Fe Fi Fo" Zoubek.

Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.
Closest I've found...unless there is some loophole. SJ, ruling please?

He has to apply for a medical. They'll likely grant it.

Yeah, they're pretty lenient with medical redshirts. Ed Davis is better anyway. Uconn wanted him so bad.

Medical Redshirt..player cannot play in greater than 20% of the scheduled games...and the injury must occur in the first half of the season. Should be a no-brainer to get it.

Yeah, it really sucks because even though he's 7-footer, he could run the floor. They also said Ginyard is behind schedule & his return might not be until January, now.
