HOW IN THE HECK CAN DUKE BE PRE-SEASON #5? I root for them and that's at least 10 spots too high.

Proportionally, its the same as the ACC...the Big East has 16 teams, the ACC 12. ACC has 4 in the top 25, and 7 total receiving votes.
PAC-10 has 6 teams total receiving votes.

You can always pine away for Billy Clyde because the Ags aren't going to be contenders again anytime soon. Rick Barnes has built a program the now lives in the Top 15 and doesn't just visit once every half century like the boys in Collie Station.

Especially given how coach k has already thrown paulus under the bus.......& the season hasn't started, yet.

What I don't understand is one day there are articles & quotes about "poor us", expectations are too high, etc...articles about that program.......only to have articles on how great they are at every position, recruiting is awesome, & they are top 5, written the next week.

Proportionally, it's NOT the same.

BIG EAST: 7 out of 16 = 43.75% of teams in top 25
ACC: 4 out of 12 = 33.3% of teams in top 25

Plus, who the stink cares about proportionally?

People who think that preseason rankings actually mean anything, ESPECIALLY in basketball.

The average ranking of WCC teams is 11... that's pretty high. I think the WCC is pretty good!

I bought Lindy's basketball preview mag a couple weeks ago and they have Duke at #4! What is everybody seeing that I'm not?

EDIT: I think they're solidly in the top 11-16 but top 5 is a huge stretch.

True, they do a lot of that, which obviously shows heart and determination.

The intimidation alone is good for a 10 to 15 point swing every game. Add in the refs working for them, and clearly God is on their side, and there's no way they can be beat!

nice one...I think we all know who's had the better football and basketball teams over the past few years

I'm not saying we should be ranked like crazy high or anything...but being unranked after barely losing in OT last year in the sweet sixteen, which they got to by beating to a team which is apparently #5 in the country this year

While WVU had has a good team coming in, they don't have Joe Alexander.

that is a good point...but we still have some good freshmen and a pretty good core...the last couple years west virginia has just found ways to win (hopefully they'll keep that up)

That's not right...we lost our #1 and #4 (Alexander and Nichols)
Ruoff and Butler are still there
