Here is a thread on AGS that talks about a rumor that the CAA is considering moving up to I-A together as league:
AGS Thread on CAA
Obviously we would love to be in a situation where we could possibly join a I-A league that wouldn't kill us financially in travel budget with non-revenue sports. How sweet would that be?

I doubt the CAA would take us, and for the most part it has to do with who our chancellor is and Liberty's conservative values.

Whatever, every CAA school can't be willing to make that move. Who else is ready/willing? We may not be ready just yet but I bet we're closer than anybody else they'd consider to replace whoever in their league can't make that move.
Also, we whine a lot here about people holding Dr. J against us. I do think that is true in some cases but does the CAA as a league really care? They might but I don't know why they would, nor does anybody have any circumstances that would show us that. (not that I know of anyway)

I don't think the state schools care about our chancellor much at all one way or the other. Its the other privates that seem to have the biggest issues. I could very easily see Delaware, JMU and SoCon stalwarts Appy & Georgia Southern all move up. I seriously doubt ODU had I-A in mind when they began starting up their program. And Richmond knows the type of investment required from their old days as a I-A program ... as a result I doubt they want to make that step. Otherwise I could see some form of this plan moving forward. We certainly would be in the mix whether we are ultimately invited or not. Frankly our I-A aspirations could actually help our overall efforts to get into the CAA.

App is nowhere near ready to move up. Some alumni have been begging for I-A since the early 90's but App isn't financially ready.

Appy is ready for this proposed move. If they were part of a regionally-based conference there really wouldn't be significant additional expenses other than scholies. Somehow I believe that could be within their reach if they so desired. Espcially since they are "Hot, Hot, Hot."
