That's just bizarre. That looks like something you might wear if you were playing basketball at a Renaissance fair. Oddly, the strangest part to me is the off-color "K" in the school name.

As crazy as this may sound, I really really like them...they have a soccer feel to them, and as many of you know soccer has some of the sickest jersey's out

as the resident "expert" on UK hoops, let me give background info for some of the weirdness of the uniform. i didnt like it at first but with the explanations from Nike and UK folks themselves, it's a lot cooler than it initially was.

The off color UK is in dedication to the man known as Mr. Wildcat Bill Keightley. He was the equipment manager for UK from 1972-2008 and an assistant equipement manager from 1962-72. He died this past spring at the age of 81. The team's jerseys also have a black band on the right shoulder with "Mr. Wildcat" written in some sort of fancy cursive-esque font.

The checker pattern is an ode to Secretariat according to the guy from Nike who designed it. He wanted to add some horseracing flair to the jersey since Kentucky is known for hoops and horse racing, so he was doing research on the internet and discovered that Secretariat the the jockey were UK colors and had a checker design on the uniform and dressings for Secretariat, so that's why they have the checkerboard design - and that checkerboard design is fairly subtle so it won't be anywhere close to recognizable on TV except when there are zoom-ins and close ups.

Thirdly, the not so subtle checker board design at the very top of the shorts is 8 squares. Seven of them contain the years in which UK has won a national championship and the eighth one is blank.

oh, and UK just got a commitment from the #3 ranked center (Daniel Orton) in the class of 2009 after he was wowed by UK's Big Blue Madness festivities on Friday :)

All right, the "K" thing makes sense and it's kind of cool that they did that. However, the Secretariat part is ridiculous since -- as most people are aware -- there are no horses in basketball. It might be kind of cool if there were but that's another topic entirely. Kentucky also happens to be famous for bluegrass, bourbon, fried chicken and giant suicidal locusts. Is UK going to make a sartorial shout-out to any of them as well or is Louisville going to handle that?

there aren't any trees in basketball either, so why then is stanford's mascot a tree and not a cardinal? don't hate because you are jealous UK has one of the most creative jersey's in the country (that doesn't look 100% retarded like oregon's) instead of one of those cookie cutter Nike jersey's all over the country - which includes LU :) lol

You're an idiot if you believe that.

Your comparison is completely off base and makes absolutely no sense. I'd expect nothing less though.

Growing up along the Ohio River across from the Bluegrass State, I was 10 years old before I learned dumb Kentuckian wasn't one word. After seeing those jerseys I now feel conflicted.

There are actually numerous trees in basketball, several of whom are clogging Kentucky's roster right now. As for being jealous, I think it's pretty clear that UK's new jerseys are, in fact, 5% polyester and 95% completely retarded.

This would help a recruit in his decision.........wouldn't it?
I have to admit I wasn’t surprised that Daniel Orton, one of the top big men in the country, committed to Kentucky over the weekend while in town for an early Midnight Madness.

Not because Kansas took itself out of the equation when the Jayhawks took a pledge from forward Thomas Robinson.

But because it certainly didn’t hurt that Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie paid Orton’s father, Larry, to speak at camps in Lexington on three separate occasions this past summer.

Jeff Goodman has been a lifelong UK hater. and other schools paid Orton's father to speak as well, including Kansas who hired Chalmer's father to get Chalmers to be a Jayhawk then promptly fired him when he bolted for the NBA. The decision to take Thomas Robison effectively ended any chance of Kansas getting Orton regardless of rather UK or KU payed Orton's father to speak or not. For over a month now Orton had been gradually leaning more and more towards KU over UK, and then when Kansas took Robinson that completely shifted everything back in UK's favor.

Hey guys, did you know UNC's new jerseys will have subtle tobacco leaves on them. The shorts are gonna have subtle Cheerwine and Texas Pete bottles too.

Oh yeah, and Duke's are going to have the state of New Jersey on theirs as well.

Wake's gonna have toilet paper as a backdrop for their new uniforms.

And State is going to have a cow on the back of theirs.

So, for everyone but Kentucky, it was only attempted bribery.

I also understand that East Carolina is keeping the same uniforms from last year but, in keeping with the pirate theme, are issuing each player two black eyepatches that the players can wear simultaneously. Because even they don't want to watch what's going on out there.
