Monthly Lynchburg Sports Club meeting features former Major Leaguer


The Lynchburg Sports Club will hold its monthly meeting at the Elks Lodge on Graves Mill Road on Tuesday, October 14th. Social hour is from 6-7 with the meal and guest speaker to follow. The guest speaker this month is former Major League pitcher and Hillcats pitching coach Jim Bibby.

Cost is $20 for non-members and $15 for members.

Are any of you guys old enough to remember Jim as a player?

I'll bet CJ thinks of him first as a member of the '79 Family. But I think of him more from his days with the Tribe when I used to watch him on WUAB (Indian Fever, Be A Believer on Channel 43 ** Sounds of Drums **).

Sure I do, I remember his brother playing college/pro basketball.

I used to bump into his nephew Mike down here at Fonde at the summer league.

It is too bad the best American athletes like Jim no longer seem interested in playing baseball these days.

Yea, Sly, I remember Bibby & Willie from '79. But that's one memory I wish I could forget. My freshman year in college at Tenn. Temple, several dozen guys crammed into a "dating parlor" (don't ask) on campus to watch that World Series. Since I was an Orioles fan, I got there early enough to get the front and center seat on the couch in front of what was probably a 24 inch TV screen (in color!). But the Pirates broke my heart that year, just as they had done 8 years earlier in '71.

Bibby played in the golf tournament today to benefit the LC baseball team...he is a BIG man!
