Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong will come out of retirement and compete in next year's Tour de France, VeloNews reported Monday, citing sources close to the situation.

Armstrong, who will turn 37 on Sept. 18, will join the Astana team and compete in five road races, the sources told VeloNews.

Hard to believe, but I am almost as big a cycling nerd as I am a running nerd.

I know most of you think that football and basketball players are the greatest athletes on the planet, but that simply isn't true. I don't expect anyone to watch all three weeks of a Tour (definetly not for everyone), but if you did, you would understand what goes into it. By the way, there aren't any time outs when you are climbing a mountain for 12 miles at 15% gradient at the end of a 125 mile day. Sure the doping has tarnished the sport, but if you think the NFL is clean, you have your head in the sand. The drug testing in cycling (and track, for that matter) is light years ahead of the major sports in the US.

I just hope Lance is up to this. The good news is that his team is really strong and will give him as good a chance as he can to win. I just don't want to see a repeat of Michael Jordan in a Washington Wizards uniform. Ugh.

Reports are being denied by the Astana team that Lance is riding for them.

I think its safe to say that no football player could ride a bike competitively for 21 days just as it is safe to say no Lance Armstrong could carry the ball 30 times a game and be productive, they both require different types of atleticism.

As sick and tired as I am of people just assuming that someone is on the juice...it goes to show that we are in a sad sad state of affairs in sports today

Sorry, poor wording on my part. I was trying to say that most think football and basketball players are superior athletes.

There are enough fingers in this situation that people arent just "assuming." Sorry for not clarifying that there is actual reason behind it

no, accusing someone who has never had any rumors would be considered "judging based on the current state of affairs in sports"

Lance has had teammates get busted, and former teammates give proof of his usage.....I personally dont care though, he was just trying to play catch up with the others in the dirtiest sport EVER
