Do you all think paying whatever it takes to get into FBS is worth it? Just curious.

I think I'm serious, probably not though.
That idea has been around but never feasible

Where it would work is MLB
I figured it had. However, I did feel classy and European when I typed it so that made me feel good.
I've always thought it was the greatest concepts ever! The off shoot is that a team that perennially can't/doesn't compete for the Upper Level can still garner a loyal following at the lower level. It has so many positives for Baseball it's crazy.

I love it too, creates drama at the top and bottom and forces everyone to play their A game to stay in the top flight. I really like the idea in college the more I think about it, it would give a program like LU that has the means to compete a leg up to do so.

Interesting comments from UAB men's basketball coach Jerod Haase (starting around 2:10 into the interview). He seems to indicate that UAB will be leaving C-USA sooner or later.

I have spoken with Jerod on a few occasions in the past month or so. He seems to think that it is an uphill battle to get football and if that is the case, CUSA will eventually (pretty soon) kick UAB out of the Conference. There is a bi-law that states you have to be a football member to compete in CUSA. In my opinion I think it may be a 1 year situation. After next season if Football is not on the UAB horizon, then they will get the boot. Just my opinion though.

If UAB becomes a "Basketball School" then membership in the A10 is not outside the realm of possibility. It would be a step up in terms of conference competition but not a HUGE jump.

I agree. When UAB announced that they would drop football, it meant that they were leaving C-USA. UAB's fans deliriously thought they would not be kicked out of the conference. This is the first time that I have seen someone in an authority position at UAB openly recognizing that they will be out of C-USA. It might be a year from now or it might be as soon as July 1, but it's going to happen.

Most people think that UAB will pursue the A-10 and then the Missouri Valley with the Sun Belt as their fallback position. Once UAB is out, C-USA will be looking for a replacement to get back to 14.

It would be an option, but it would also put the OVC at 13 teams.

What a convoluted law! There are so many provisions and conditions in this thing, it must have been written by lawyers! :)

A couple of things caught my attention:
Football Championship Subdivision schools such as Norfolk State and James Madison can fund a maximum of 70 percent of their budgets with student fees, and both NSU and JMU may have to restructure their budgets to meet that standard. According to USA Today, Norfolk State funded 80 percent of its athletic budget and JMU 79 percent through student fees.
They have to meet the 70% threshold before July 1, 2021? That doesn't sound too hard.
The law also requires state schools that want to add a major sport such as football, or seek to play at a higher NCAA level, receive approval from Intercollegiate Athletics Review Commission.

JMU has been contemplating a move into FBS. If the school decides to move up prior to July 1, 2016, it would not need approval from the commission. Any decision made after that date would need commission approval.
This could accelerate their timetable if they have designs to move up.

If accurate, this is obviously bad news.

However, I can't seem to find any sort of information in either the CBS report or the ESPN article that actually leads me to believe it is ready to pass. Just Bowlsby being optimistic.

Succinct but accurate :?

Without the 12-team requirement for a conference championship game, I can't think of any other incentive conferences would have for expansion.

To say that the deregulation rule is a death blow to our FBS chances would be unwise to say.

Is the news disappointing? Yes it is, but I will continue to remain optimistic about Liberty's journey to FBS.

What we have to look for now (in no particular order):

* Liberty continuing to improve its football and men's basketball products.
* The "UAB effect" on other FBS schools. (Hawaii is rumored to have troubles hosing football, for example).
* The C-USA's decision on UAB. Do they reconsider their stance on every member having football?
* C-USA decision to go to 14 or 16.

All eyes point to C-USA right now. In the meantime, we have to continue to improve our "beauty" status to prospective conferences...

I have a few more, but you guys tend to not like some of my ideas, so I'll keep them to myself for now. :P
