Make no bones about it, Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson isn’t standing pat when it comes to his league. It’s no secret that the conference is looking to add a 12th member soon. Adding another school would allow the league to create divisions and begin hosting a conference football championship game. That means an opportunity for more revenue for the league and its membership. Several candidates have been rumored with Liberty as a possible front-runner. James Madison was on the list, but school officials squashed any talk by stating the Dukes were content remaining in the FCS at this time.

So, in the last few minutes the story has been changed to this:

FWIW...

Another rumor I've heard this morning from someone with connections to the Sun Belt but no connections to Liberty:

"Word is Liberty and/or Southeast MO State"

It's the first I've heard SE Missouri State, not to be confused with Missouri State.

From a facilities standpoint, I think it's safe to say they aren't quite FBS ready. Only 10,000 seats in their FB stadium...

I'm amazed at how quickly the media outlets jumped on one story of the UMass SB negotiating. Lazy journalist that add nothing new to the original story.

I didn't believe it either when I first heard it, thought they were talking about Missouri State, but they reinforced it was SE MO St.

I've been thinking 50/50 for a while now, but as Tuesday gets closer I'm feeling more and more confident.

A couple of my thoughts. Jerry Jr.or Benson hasn't made any statements as to Liberty no longer being considered. After several flights Jerry Jr. hasn't been criss crossing back and forth to convince SB schools to invite us. So does it mean we may have the necessary votes and the negotiating is over?

Well you have to remember too that he blacked out his flights. Don't believe it, just consider how he was in Monroe, Lousiana while his plane was supposedly still in Lynchburg or consider that he went to see The Voice in Los Angeles and his plane was supposedly still in Lynchburg. He may very well have been visiting presidents again this week for all we know. It's safe to assume he has been doing due diligence and hopefully the votes are in. We will know soon.

Willie Robertson has swung the vote in our favor with his influence. A major TV deal will bring the Robertson's to LFSN. I understand Uncle Si will be working the "Si-delines" at all LU football games.

Thanks for the laugh guys with SEMO. In terms of OVC teams being ready to make the jump I would put them fourth. EKU, JSU, Murray State and then SEMO.

We have some posters who are downright determined Liberty will not be added, and will find any reason possible to prove it wont happen.

For what I do know. There is a vote scheduled to be taken Monday Morning. Both Liberty and UMass will be voted on during the meeting. Liberty gets first dibs on vote because its an all sports situation. If Liberty is voted down. UMass will be voted on.

My ASU sources tell me that they do not anticipate adding anyone this year. However, people around App are convinced UMass is the invite, while others are convinced its Liberty. I think what we are seeing is two divisions that have not yet figured out how to get along, and things may be decided at the last minute.

If there is an invite...expect an announcement Tuesday because the SBC Baseball tournament begins Wednesday in Mobile and the head honchos will need to be there.

I've always said that a Liberty invite would come at a time when half our mod staff was unavailable to moderate the conference board. Well, we have three mods unavailable Tuesday and Wednesday right now...including myself as I will be in Mobile for the conference tourney. So I guess if you want a sign...that means Liberty is the invite.

Getting approval for the championship game to be played with conferences that don't have the 12 could be a couple years down the road from getting approved. The ACC commissioner just stated he believes it will eventually get approved. The SB would be foolish not to get to 12.
