Just as some are always cynical, some just choose to ignore constantly getting screwed over.

Open your eyes and see what they're doing.

It would be a huge slap in the face if we are rejected by the Belt..

@FlameFans Last night during the Maroon/White football game. Our prez Benson had said Sun Belt is looking for a FBS team to fill its void.
Had not seen that before I posted. If true (and accurately interpreted), that pretty much closes the door. Perhaps UMass will say no and the Sun Belt will look back our way, or perhaps the EKU prez misinterpreted the Sun Belt's position.

If they do add UMass, they'll basically be accepting everything they said they didn't want (football-only, way outside the footprint, poor record, etc.) just to avoid adding Liberty. I would imagine that would mean the East schools have concluded there is absolutely nothing that would ever convince the Arkansas and Louisiana schools to vote for us, and therefore I hope our admin would just break off contact with the Sun Belt already and focus elsewhere. And hopefully the SBC East would give us some good OOC games in the meantime, since apparently they like us now (App State in 2014, GA State in 2015).

yea, I don't know what others are reading, but that is the way I took it as well. They were likely turned down and he's giving his take on why.

I hope you pros are right. For the record, my paragraph was conditional; I still believe we should hold out hope until multiple official sources confirm that Liberty is either in or out.

That's just it, we saw rumors where JMU was in... where MoSt was in... where EKU was in.... where Umass was in.... where Liberty was in. It changes daily. We will all see in a few short weeks what happens. Until then the speculation continues.

This. +1,000,000

First off, the Bret Shroats guy looks like he's still in puberty. At best, he's an amateur blogger for EKU baseball...

Secondly, everything the EKU president tweeted pertained to EKU, not Liberty.

Lastly, would a school really admit that the reason they can't move to FBS is because they don't have the resources? If I were Michael Benson, I would find that really humiliating. Thus, I would do everything I could to make it appear that the Sun Belt is the obstacle, preventing EKU from joining.

First of all, Bret Shroats read this page and may do so again. Just FYI.

If the EKU prez is right, I expect we will see independent, non-EKU sources confirming it shortly. If none show up, then I'd say he was probably just theorizing why they were turned down. For reference, here is the actual Maroon Nation report: http://www.maroon-nation.com/archives/709

I don't really care if he reads my post. I think he looks like a teenager, and he's still just some blogger.

And again, unless the EKU president says that the Sun Belt is sticking at eleven, we really shouldn't be concerned. Everything that I've seen posted from twitter today, pertains to EKU, not Liberty.

Is there some kind of point you're trying to make? He looks young so he can't be trusted?

Yeah, let's not forget the track record you had on here when you first started. This is a fluid situation. It's best just to keep our eyes and ears open.

I don't expect anything less. The president of EKU tells a student, most likely, what the Sun Belt told him,and people PANIC. This seems cyclical, soon enough we'll see Falwell 1 going to New Orleans or some other Sun Belt city and the process will start all over again.

The Liberty administration knows the fans are waiting for any official word. I would think if Liberty has been notified the SB was a no go we would hear something.

I will say, every school's president that has been rumored as a serious contender, has come out and said no the sun belt is not happening, except Liberty. JMU, MoSt, now EKU....

This email is being sent on behalf of President Michael Benson.

Dear Campus:

We have learned from the Commissioner of the Sun Belt that we are no longer being considered for expansion at this time. Instead, the member institutions of the Sun Belt seem to be narrowing their attention to those universities currently within the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), and not to those Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools considering a move upward.

We will remain in the Ohio Valley Conference, will continue to improve our facilities and expand our programs, and will compete on the national stage of FCS football.

I have appreciated the input received from interested faculty, staff, and students on the topic of EKU and the future of our athletics program and remain committed to moving our institution forward, both academically and athletically.

Go Eastern!

Mike
Hopefully, this does not explain JFJR's canceled flight to N.O... Maybe he was asked to fax in Liberty's membership application.

OR

JFJR cancelled the flight because he didn't want to carry too much on-hand cash with him and wired money to the Sun Belt.

OR

Maybe the darkside is near...

As others have pointed out, this could be an attempt to 'save face' knowing they (EKU) have too much work to do before they are ready. There is NO way EKU could be ready in the timeframe SBC is looking for. It's an easy out for EKU if Liberty is selected to say, "we were under the impression they were looking for FBS schools"

So far we still have only one source, the EKU prez, claiming that the Sun Belt's rejection of EKU extends to all FCS schools. I have yet to see an independent source outside EKU corroborate that claim. Unless someone does, we'll probably have to wait for Karl Benson's interview on Two Cents Radio next Wednesday to find out what's going on. IMHO

Yeah, let's not forget that. I was a young kid, pretending to be in the know, when despite being somewhat connected, I really knew nothing.I still wouldn't consider myself a reliable source, which is why I don't pretend to be in the know.

My point is that anyone who has been given any inkling of a hint, makes it a point to pretend like they have this "inside source." I've seen it from several on here, and I've seen it from several on the Sun Belt board, and countless times on Twitter. Even the people who I would consider to be in the know, Chris Lang, don't have all of the answers. And even if Lang of all people reported something, that doesn't necessarily mean it's 100% accurate. My point is only that people on here shouldn't put any stock into something that was tweeted by some random blogger for EKU.

The comments were made about EKU, not Liberty. Yet, people are acting as if this means that the Sun Belt won't be inviting any FCS teams, including Liberty.
