I said when I watched LU lose to UNCA at LaHaye that Winthrop were going to blow out the Bulldogs on Saturday. There were dudes there saying, "Oh, UNCA had convincingly defeated Winthrop both times," and "who can stop Kenny George?". But I kept telling them Winthrop were going to blow them out, regardless. Congrats to the Winthrop Eagles on winning the Big South Tourney.....Can't wait 'till next basketball season.....

Critic, they did push Kenny George out further. No one can deny that, no one can say it didn't happen. However, I pose a question for you: How much of a factor was him playing 20+ minutes twice in four days already this week? Watching him today, he was tired. It was obvious. His shots were short, even the baby hooks. He played a ton against us. It was only like 22 minutes, but it was long stretches at a time. I'm not taking anything away from Winthrop, because they did it and we didn't, but I think you have to look at the overall picture and realize he wasn't quite as strong today as he was Tuesday or Thursday. A strong big man plus him being worn down will end up like it did today.

Just got done watching the TiVo'd game... had to work this morning.

Well Gaynor showed up to play Not that Smithson was anything special, but at least he played Defense and was actually in the game. Props to Winthrop for knocking down the big shots early and then surviving that UNC A run in the second half. Very disapointed with the Defense from asheville. Other than during that brief run it was like they were all running around with their heads cut off. Pressure? Not used to the big stage? maybe...not sure.

I do think Asheville is the better team -- but Winthrop won and they deserve to go back to the tourny with that Defensive effort. Only problem I had was Gaynor (I think it was him) -- with 5 seconds to go and the shot-clock off running down the court and trying to dunk the ball (he missed, bricked it). I'm sure most of you had turned it off by then but that was completely classless and un-necessary. That's not the way you win.

I think Smithson is the best offensive guard in this league. His defense is nothing to laugh at either. Him and Jenkins are both very good at the two.

I'm no fan at all of KJ Garland. Gaynor is much better defensively. KJ can score some, but I'd rather have Gaynor.

One WU was pretty physical with Kenny today. They did a good job of bodying him up and forcing him to shoot jump shots and little hooks and he didn't have to shoot either one of those shots. He got mostly dunks against LU and CSU. Do you expect him to make every shot even the baby hooks when he is 3-6 feet away from the basket? He pretty much got all dunks all of this week in the tournament except for when they played WU for the third time in the Big South Championship game today. KG couldn't get on the low block all day this morning and he had to really work and move around to even get position on the low block. He has played that many minutes and he had a day of rest to get ready for this game. So WU wore him out today with their physicality and making him really move around and he couldn't handle that. So really the excuse of being tired when he hardly had to work to even get position on the low block against us and CSU is a non factor.

Agreed...I think Smithson is more consistent (or has been over the course of the season). But Jenkins obviously showed what he is capable of today.

Gaynor is better Defensively than KJ -- Gaynor is probably more a pure PG (correct me if I'm wrong)...whereas KJ plays a similar hybrid 1/2 game like Smithson does. KJ & Smithson together have the advantage of both being able to run the point, and yet both create their own shot.

Taj dunked at the end of the game against us and we didn't care. We've done the same thing a few times this year and it wasn't that big of a deal. We even joked with Taj at the end of the game here asking if he was going to dunk it in the final five seconds again.

Gaynor's dunk attempt was completely un-necessary and most players would never even attempt it. You ever seen an NBA player try that stunt? No, because they'd be flat on their back the next game. Do you see NBA guys jack up 3's at the buzzer down 20? All the time.

Justice is fun...its too small though. They are going to keep volleyball there, which is good so justice will basically become the "volleyball" gym. And the new building is going to be amazing. Not *that* big, but a little over 3000 which is plenty big for Asheville, and they are really working to make it modern. They've been talking about doing the little things right--like the ability to "turn off the lights" and get them back on to do Intros and things like that. Whether or not that focus continues once they start building and the costs rise is yet to be seen...But, they'll keep justice around, which is nice i think

yeah, supposedly they are breaking ground this fall. and then scheduled to be ready for the 2010/2011 basketball season.
