You know, I really couldn't see Meyer leaving IU before he ever gets on the sideline, but I wouldn't underestimate his apparent dislike of Dunton. Or rather an anonymous poster from MO dislikes Dunton. That's got to be a pretty attractive proposition. An HC job with a great team in a position to get to the tournament, in a conference where you'd get to beat up on a team that you used to coach (who possibly ran you out of town, that's debatable apparently) who is now coached by someone who you despise.

LUConn, one of these days the truth will come out about this Meyer-Dunton debate. I my only hope is everyone on this board who is a LU fan or has ties to either man is there to hear the truth.

I personally think whoever the next Winthrop coach is may be successful for one or 2 years and then the WU will definitely come back to the middle of the pack. I am already hearing Coastal is the new pre-season #1 choice.

I doubt Meyer is going to be contacted but he isn't a bad choice either. The great thing is that the foundation is in place to keep winthrop a mid major power. The structure, facilities, and money is there to keep everything going.

There is no way CCU will be preseason #1. Marshall is a great coach, but the players play the game, and Martin, Bradshaw, Williams, and Gaynor aren't going anywhere.

You're right. Everything is in place to keep you guys up there. But all it takes is one coach to screw everything up and it'll set you back a decade. The worst part is, because you already have good players which will result in at the very least decent teams, you wont even realize what has happened before it's too late. One year after GM's players are all gone, you wonder what happened on the recruiting trail the last few years.

So obviously, this next coach is a very important decision in the future of WU basketball.

Also as for the Meyer-Dunton thing, I really don't think any of us will ever learn the truth until Glory.

Wow. Take a day off and look what happens. Best of luck to Gregg and the Cougs. I can't wait to see that program back on top.

Realist, remember this is college basketball, where the coaches really matter, not the NBA... Also Winthrop barely beat Coastal in the Championship game and Leasure was awful 2 for 15 or something like that... Players do play the game, but GM is the best coach the Big South has ever seen!!! I bet there is 7 other head coaches happy today that GM left the Big South.

I think Meyer would be foolish to pursue the Winthrop job right now, after 3 good years at Indiana he could get a better mid-major job.

Coastal loses some important pieces, especially Pele Paelay ... Winthrop will certainly be my vote for No. 1 preseason. No sense getting cute with that pick.

Radebaugh really impressed me this year with what he did with very little to work with at Chuck South. He'd be a real interesting choice ... though if the players want Peele, they'll probably get him. Same thing happened when Ben Howland left NAU for Pitt. The players campaigned openly for the lead assistant to get the job and he ended up getting it.

Lang, What do you mean Radebaugh had little to work with, go back and look at their roster... CSU had at least 4 or 5 seniors and those kids played in the championship game the as juniors. He also inherited Bart Lundy's players at Queens College in his only other head coaching stop. Whoever takes over will not duplicate GM's success.

Lang can we get your early 1-8 predictions?

I believe LU was 3-3 regular season vs GM over the past three years. I say that LU will make its presence felt this year (Chris... please excuse the cliche.. and don't hold it against me when I apply for the job as your assistant.)

Should be an exciting and interesting year.

Kill ... Seniors or not, his players did not impress me in the least. Trent Drafts was terrible. The only kid I liked was the guard Chris Moore.

Chris is dead-on re: Charleston Southern.
Look at all the big guys who were on Barclay's bench. There's a reason they weren't playing.
And Chris, get back to work.

im not a peele fan, but in the interim, probably a good choice. i would look outside the box on this pick though.

My sources tell me that Meyer is not going to pursue this position and neither is Barclay Radebaugh. However both would be open to talking if Winthrop were to pursue them. I still say Peele is gonna get it for the time being and maybe one of the other candidates will take over next season.

Less than 24 after a news conference in which he was introduced as the new head coach at the College of Charleston, Winthrop's Gregg Marshall has had a change of heart.

A news conference is expected at 2 p.m.

According to a source close to the situation, Marshall told the players at Winthrop of his decision to remain at the school Thursday, but has yet to inform the College of Charleston of his decision.

"Really? That's surprising to me," College of Charleston athletic director Jerry Baker said. "I was with him last night until 7:30. I hope that's wrong and as far as I know, it's wrong."

"But anything's possible," Baker added. "If he did decide to stay at Winthrop, I don't know about it."

Marshall, a former assistant at Charleston from 1988-1996 under John Kresse, was slated to replace Tom Herrion at Charleston. Herrion was fired earlier this month despite averaging 20 wins in his four seasons.

Marshall, 43, has racked up a 165-78 record in eight seasons at Winthrop and is the winningest coach in the history of the school. He has led the Eagles to six NCAA tournament appearances.

REEEEAAAALLLLY. He must of worn his 8 button suit on C of C campus and he couldn't handle everyone laughing at him.

After doing this - he better kiss any other opportunities after this year goodbye.

Now C of C fans know what everyone in the Big South knows outside of Winthrop's campus: Gregg Marshall's a dick.

Dang! It didn't even get **** treatment. As Brokeback might say, Marshall took "The College" and bent them over.

Not everyone on this board is a Christian, but we would love them to be. Read more of this board, you will know where most of us stand. This board has very few posters like that. But just like life, people like you are quick to pass judgement about everyone just because you saw one bad apple.

All you did was quote the statement again so I had to read it again - thanks!!

BTW...that was a GUEST that posted the comment in the first place...not an "official registered user"...that comment has nothing to do with us...as far as we know it could be from a disgruntled C of C fan.
