So beating the number one team in the country is validity enough? And didn't Baylor lose to WVY? He's they did, I have the t-shirt. And didn't Baylor beat TCU?

And VT beat Ohio State AT Ohio State...whats your point? That maybe Bama shouldn't have been in and the whole SEC West was overrated????

SEC west was not over rated, just unlucky in bowls. Bowl games are hard to predict due to the long layoff. For the playoffs, they should give each team a week off after regular season, then play semi finals.

First game of the year with a new QB? Then look at their body of work after that. I be.ieve if the Big XII had a championship game the winner would have been the 4th team

You are crazy.
Based on their regular season, they shouldn't have. Out of FSU, Oregon, Bama, TCU, Baylor, and tOSU, they had by far both the worst loss and no decent OOC win. They earned their way to the championship game by beating Bama, but they should have been the 6 placed team (maybe 5th ahead of Baylor) in the rankings at the end of the season.

This playoff is showing exactly why FBS should have done it long ago and also why they need to expand to 8 with the P5 champs plus 3 at large teams going in.

Yes, look at their body of work after that. They barely beat Minnesota, 31-24, while TCU beat that same team 30-7.

Id go with the P5 champions (in case of no championship game, start with head to head, then common opponents then CFP ranking), plus the highest ranked G5 champion and then two at-large

TCU and Baylor should not be eligible for the playoff since they didnt have a championship game. Here is my playoff suggestion:

1. All P5 conferences should be forced to have a championship game.
2. ND should be forced to join one of the conferences or be ineligible.
3. The "Big" 12 should be forced to take BYU.
4. The winner of each of the P5 championship games gets in automatically.
5. There is one "wild card" allowed (for six teams total)
6. The top two teams get a first round bye. The #1 team gets its choice of bowl games... #2 gets to choose second. (I anticipate historical preferences)
7. Team 3 plays team 6 at home; Team 4 plays team 5 at home. This game is in mid December.
8. The lowest ranked "wild card" winner plays #1.

Voila.

I think that they would have been in too. But based on what the selection committee did, the Big XII is in big trouble until they have a championship game.

More nonsense than I've seen in quite a while. NCAA rules refuse the Big 12 the option to have a championship game without 12 teams. Why does a championship game matter, especially with something like the huge disparity between SEC West and East, more than actually beating good teams?

6 teams just gives the clueless committee even more of a chance to screw up by giving the wrong 2 teams a bye. Play a good enough schedule, like TCU did, and you get in. Play a weak out of conference schedule and lose to the only team on it without a pulse, like tOSU did, and get left out. The committee went with established names over actual accomplishments.

Yep, and they can't have one for at least 2 years even if they take BYU and Cincinnati right now.

The ratings were enormous for both semifinals. If there is a way for the playoff to expand before the current contract expires, it will.

Here is how the playoff would have looked based on an 8 team model:

ACC: Florida State
Big Ten: Ohio State
Big 12: Baylor
Pac 12: Oregon
SEC: Alabama
G5: Boise State
At-large: TCU, Michigan State or Mississippi State (for sake of this example we will go with the Spartans)

Seedings

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. Florida State
4. Ohio State
5. Baylor
6. TCU
7. Michigan State
8. Boise State

First Round
Alabama vs. Boise State
Oregon vs. Michigan State
Florida State vs. TCU
Ohio State vs. Baylor

BJ, nice work. Only issue I see would be Oregon and Michigan Dtate already played. I wonder if there would need to be a rule against that, similar to what they do for the basketball tournaments.

to that point, they probably could do that if they were in the same conference like in FCS. I mean they could have TCU and Michigan State flip flop and that would create a highly intriguing 2/7 matchup

Absolutely. It's stunning that the "purists" didn't understand America's affinity for playoffs and champions determined on the field. They'll be at some sort of 8 team system as soon as they can figure out the contractual info.

I have never liked conference championship games. Most conferences have all the good teams in one division. CCGs are just another money racket to line pockets of the commissioners.

The ACC and B1G are definitely the biggest offenders there. ACC Coastal and B1G West are probably the two worst top to botom divisions in the P5.

Yeah. Wow was I wrong. This is why I never guarantee anything in sports. I went against my own rule and was burned. Urban is just a fantastic coach.
