If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

The thing we would bring is being willing to do the crazy FCS and basketball travel whichis the CAA.

Anyway, Brent posted on his twitter tonight that Liberty is the only viable option for the Sunbelt at this point, but members won't unite on Liberty.

We are the only team ready...they might rather wait than take us, that is how much we are hated. :(
So God allows for teams that have values against Him who refuse to play us as of 2001 (Appy State) and he allows them to move up and not a for Him university? Why? If we do not get into the Sun Belt for 2014 then kiss it goodbye forever because all the new institutions will vote against us (Appy State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, Georgia State, New Mexico State, Idaho, and UTA).

In my opinion with all due respect jbock13 I don't think I am. UNC Charlotte did not even have a football team (going to CUSA), UTSA started football in 2009 (WAC 2012 and now CUSA 2013), Old Dominion started football in 2009 (going to CUSA), and now they are saying even after JMU that Jacksonville State and/or Missouri State could jump us as well. More institutions could be right behind them (for example Lamar).

We're still ignoring the thought that maybe God has more He wants us to do at the FCS level -- and maybe even in the Big South.

I would love to see Liberty playing FBS football. That should certainly be the goal of the program. But we also need to do as much as we can do where we are now. We've made ourselves ready; when God wants us to move up, we will move up. Until then, we should focus on excelling where we are.

The SoCon will be making site visits to ETSU, Mercer and VMI this coming week. Invitations are expected to follow shortly thereafter. This is fresh material from this morning.

Barring a shocking turn of events, those three are as good as members of the Southern Conference. That also means the Big South is on the clock to add another football member. The D2 candidates are obvious and mentioned ad nauseum in thread led by Kennesaw State.

I have no information whatsoever on the Sun Belt situation after being overseas for a couple of weeks. But if something doesn't happen by June 1st it won't likely happen until Mid-Fall on any front.

This is old news from last week. You missed it while you were schmoozing with the Pope.

God may empower Tebow to avoid things like injury, but God doesn't change the arc on his throws or make defenders fall down magically. God may bless our school, but I don't think he literally cares whether we win our games.

And plus, as we enter the FF.com summer doldrums, why not have a raging theological conversation? :flamingdevil

Does God care about who wins or loses a game? Nope, not really. Does God care about how an evangelical Christian university's athletics program interacts with other schools, with an eye towards furthering the Kingdom of God? Yeah, He pretty much does.

In your world furthering=BCS. It may not be in His world

Exactly why Christians argue about things so much- they always assume that our reality is God's reality.

+1. God cares about Tebow, Big Ben, Peyton Manning, and all football players, but football itself? Nah

Since we are headed way off target anyway I might as well jump in. To think that God "does not care" about sports is too big a generalization. Certainly the fate of the world does not ride on any outcome of a game, but I believe God uses people's success in sports to provide platforms for athletes, coaches, and others to have a platform for sharing the gospel. Certainly not often, but to think that God would not utilize sports which statistics have shown is the biggest commonality in American culture is simplistic.

Two good examples are Payne Stewart winning the US Open and Frank Reich quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. Payne Stewart said after the round that he did not believe God helped his ball go in the hole but the peace he had found with God allowed him to play more relaxed and helped him play better. Frank Reich heard the song "In Christ Alone" by Michael English (not the hymn) on the way to the stadium and in his testimony said he felt God encouraging him to write down the lyrics. During the press conference after the greatest comeback in playoff history (for the record the final points were scored by a William & Mary alum, GO TRIBE!!) he shared about his faith and read the words from the song about how his greatest victories are in Christ alone. Both had opportunities to speak of the greatness of God because of the impact of winning a game.

Yeah, we try to forget that game here in Houston.

Gist of the LU part = Liberty is ready financially and facilities etc. but for reasons that Brent can't explain (Or chose not to) The other institutions in the Sun Belt do not want Liberty.
