Give realist a break, he just didn't want to face the fact that Davidson is the Gonzaga of the East Coast, not Winthrop. :D

Who would be the Gonzaga of the EC? Davidson hasn't been consistent enough and Winthrop hasn't won but 1 tournament game. I'm not sure there is a Gonzaga in the East. Butler would be close but they haven't been good for as long and they are more midwest.

They finally actually beat a decent team, hooray. Tell them to call Winthrop when they win about 10 more of those. 1 top 100 RPI win, whoopee!

It took them two years to win an NCAA game, not ten.

That's because they haven't made the NCAA tournament 8 years out of 10

They weren't good enough to make it.

1 top 100 win in how many years?

Sorry but it's a one hit wonder. Do it consistently.

Pretty sure they made it two years in a row. That's more than a one-hit wonder.

You know Realist, as much as I do see your point about Davidson vs Winthrop, how about giving a little credit where its due. Curry had a monster game today, and they got that first win in the tournament.

Oh yeah, Curry had a good game, no doubt. But let's not make him out to be something he isn't. Davidson and Curry haven't beaten any ranked opponents or even top 100 opponents except for today, on basically a home court.

Curry isn't even the best player on the team, that's Richards.

Again, call me when Davidson can do it over a period of years, beat top teams consistently. They just haven't done it.

The day people on this board give WU credit is the day that Winthrop fans will begin to distribute credit where it's due.

They are the evil empire of our league. We hate 'em. But credit is due, much more credit than we give them. They have dominated the Big South, beat teams that no one else in this league could beat, and deserve some props. I have hated on them in the past, but I guess I am gaining a better perspective. They win, a lot, and deserve their due.

Props, WU. Good season this year. (Heck, I thought they were gonna win against WSU after watching the first 10-15 minutes.)

This whole argument is ridiculous. You're basically arguing who's bigger, the midget or the dwarf? Guess what? You're both itty-bitty and you both could wear an orange peel as a codpiece. How's that?

All I'm stating is fact.

WU has beaten top 100 RPI teams consistently, Davidson has done it once.

WU goes to the tournament much more, so WU winning once in how many tries is moot, you can't win if you don't get there, and getting there is better than not getting there, which WU has done many more times than Davy in the last ten years.

If anyone is smoking anything, it's the ones with the strange fascination with Davidson who has only proved they can win one game against good competition in 10 years.

Compare this year's Davidson team to Winthrop in year two of their run. Will Davidson reel off 10 in 11 or whatever it was? I doubt it because the SoCon is stronger than the Big South, but them this year is only comparable to Winthrop in year two.

How so? McKillop just started at Davidson a year ago?

As for the socon being stronger, don't make me laugh.

Try to tell me the SoCon wasn't stronger the past two years. The Big South had Winthrop, and that's it. The SoCon at least had a second fiddle in App St and Georgia Southern wasn't bad. The Big South has been terrible the past two years.

I'd argue that Asheville was stronger than any second fiddle in the socon. The leagues are basically the same, with the exception that the socon has more teams and the socon actually has worse bottom feeders with teams like the Citadel, Furman, and Western.

I would agree with that statement...Also this is not Davidson's 1st tournament win. Lefty Driesell did it back in the day at Davidson when the SoCon was a real conference. "They haven't had that Spirit there since 1969"

There are worse experiences than having Don Henley croon between your ears.

As everyone else has stated, this argument is silly. Davidson swept their league while the Eagles were swept by the Bulldogs. Davidson is in the second round while the Eagles were blown out in the first round. History is history and today is today. Winthrop is still a quality mid major program regardless of what Davidson accomplishes.
