Winthrop fans have the right to think their team is the best because they have been what 7 out of the past 10 years? Until someone knocks them off their perch they have that right. I do think this year is the best chance for someone to beat them out of the past 4 years (including this one).

I can't wait for Realist to come over here and explain how "off" WU was tonight. The number of excuses on their board is amazing! Face it, you got beat by a better team :D

Oh wait, some of the WU players did have the flu

All the WU fans just realize they are very good, if that is arrogance so be it. I don't see anything that tells me they have taken any step back, and don't see anything in the future that would prevent it either.
Still haven't taken a step back? :D

Yeah, they definitely aren't used to losing in the Big South in the past 4 years, it's fun to see how they react.

You're right, Gaynor and Taj didn't play most of the game. The bench had icepacks on their heads to keep fever down. I was amazed they led at halftime.

Soooo...Basically you can blame those *two* losses Winthrop has in conference on that flu bug, right? What about when UNCA comes down and beats them at home -- another bout of the flu?

I think your SID's gave a different excuse for the loss...
An ice-cold shooting performance in the second half coupled with a strong defensive effort by UNC Asheville led to a 71-56 victory for the Bulldogs in a key Big South Conference battle in the Justice Center.

Of course the SID's did, they have to. The papers and people who attended don't, however.

haha, not that it actually matters if UNCA still has a comfy lead in the standings :)

I understand the pain of Winthrop fans, the only reason we beat them was because of a "perfect storm" over high point that night. They are cocky and annoying. I'm even more annoyed with the whole school right now as they have refused to give us any tickets for Saturdays match-up. You would think in their gym they could afford to at least give us as much as yall did. But not the all powerful Winthrop I guess.

 Call the ticket office and buy a ticket. Why should Winthrop "give" you the ticket? Here you say Winthrop has "refused to give us any tickets for Saturdays match-up." yet on winthropfans you said "Winthrop will not be giving any tickets, other than the ones alloted to the team for the game." Maybe you didn't feel you needed to add the last part over here.

I couldn't help but notice in another thread:
http://www.flamefans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7883
Students who show their Liberty ID at the game will get in for just $3 instead of the regular $6 ticket price and High Point has provided reserved a seating area behind the Flames bench on a first come, first served’ basis.
Huh... I don't remember High Point doing anything like that for the Winthrop students. Guess I just overlooked it....

As for the "cocky" part... you are probably right. But how many times have fans stormed the court after beating High Point in a regular season game? Tell AZ to keep his shirt on.

I can't say we would have done the $3 ticket thing with WU, but I know that game was sold-out a couple days in advance if I remember right also I'm pretty sure we "gave" yall 40 tickets or something like that. I don't know if we are "giving" LU tickets or if they asked for them but I'd be dissapointed if we didn't do the same thing that they did for us because I know for students we had 50 tickets I believe (I don't know if those were bought or given, but free for us).

The reason I didn't include the players tickets and almost didn't include it over on WF was because I'm pretty sure its assumed that coaches/players always get tickets for any sport at any level.

How was it sold out days in advance? I thought High Point didn't sell tickets in advance of gameday? Also, it was my understanding that the 40 tickets given to WU were for players/coaches... not an extra 40 on top of the players/coaches amount. Of course, I could be wrong about that.

As if we can talk anymore. We're sleep walking through games and freaking lost to Radford. Road wins are hard to come by, and we couldn't steal one from the last place team. So yeah, WU isn't as good as their fans thought, but we've got out own problems. Why do we have 2 of these threads going at once?

Actually we've only played the last place team once and we beat them. If anyone thought we would get more than 1 out of these 3 raod games they are crazy, that's just not realistic.

I'm hating on WU because their fans think (or thought) they were so much better than the rest of the Big South when they obviously aren't.

so after we beat VMI, I was crazy if I thought we'd beat Radford at their place? We're their only win.

No Radford won at VMI right after they played us.

You're not crazy for thinking we'd beat Radford, but it is crazy to think BEFORE these past 3 games we would get 2. I was hoping for it, but realized 1 was more realistic. Let's face it, we beat a team who is struggling to find their identity in VMI and then played Radford who is improving a TON right to the wire. I thought we had about a 20% chance to beat High Point.

It seems the fans at High Point and Coastal Carolina think Winthrop is pretty good (unless they rush the court after every win  ).

Most of the "fans" or students at Big South schools have no clue other than they've heard Winthrop's name on ESPN if they even watch ESPN.

I'm not saying Winthrop's not good, they are and are the class of the Big South as a program, but this year it was obvious from very early on that it wasn't going to be so easy for WU to win the conference if they even win it.
