Marshall just made a comment about recruiting some post players to go to Winthrop and how he's gonna bring them to Wichita St.

AD confirms 7yr/ $750k per year plus incentives...however they are saying an agreemnt in principle...they better get his signature in permanent marker soon, he just made a joke about the CofC thing saying that you don't have to worry about that happening again.

He has already told his assistant coaches and spoken with WU players on the phone. He said he has a 9 o'clock meeting with them to discuss in person

Marshal is completely classless...I am not saying he is wrong for leaving, its how he is doing the whole leaving thing that has me scratching my head

I guess WU fans will finally see what the rest of us have been saying all along about him

I haven't seen anything that I would consider classless with this decision and I'm as big of a WU fan as anyone (and I don't even know Marshall personally)...

He just comes across as if he has no concern in the world for anybody but himself. True or not, he has that aura about him.

this is gonna sound like a joke but i'm being serious...what are the chances of Jeff Meyer being interested or getting the Winthrop job? Obviously this is a stretch because he is back home in Indiana, but the possibility is intriguing.

It'd be a step down for him.

Does anyone think that our success in the Big South next year might be downplayed initially because of Marshall's departure and Winthrop losing some top seniors?

Actually, Randy Peele is a shoe-in to be the next coach for Winthrop. Peele recruited some big time talent for VA Tech and he was head coach forone of the most formidable teams ever to win the Big South: '96 UNC-G. Peele is a solid coach who will keep Winthrop near the top. I'm sure that they expect to return to the dance next season with the senior backcourt of Gaynor/Jenkins and the emergence of redshirt freshman Brian Faison.

On the other hand, McKay's group may be the best LU squad to date as far as overall depth goes:

1. Bannister/Holland
2. Brewington/Jenkins
3. Smith/Brewington
4. Baker/Campbell
5. McLean/Winters

Also, we have that Jeremy kid from Kentucky along with two seniors, Big Russ and Porter.

I'd take Winters off that list.

I'm saying it now, Russ is going to be a lot better next year with a coach that will develop him.

With his size, I hope you're right. But we can add him to the list rather than delete "the Monsta."
You can never have too much depth down low.[/url]

And sure enough Paradox, Winthrop immediately named Peele the head coach (according to the Herald)...I would've been curious as to who would've been in the mix if Winthrop opened up the job to outsiders, but obviously the AD likes what Peele has to offer, and he has a good enough resume to be the right guy for the job.

When a kid's not eligible, you can't have him on a list.

We don't have any success in the BS next year, yet. Let's not get our hopes or expectations too high yet. We lost our best player on a very average BS team. A much improved coaching staff will certainly help, but we still have some big gaps to fill.

Peele is a great hire for you guys. I don't know if there would have been a more qualified canidate for this current situation.

I remember Peele at UNC-G and was never really impressed. (He was real good whining to Jerry about the LU fans getting on his team though). Definitely a big step down for WU in my opinion.

Wait a second, are you saying that Winters will not be eligable next season? If so, what are you basing that on?

If he's in school next semester, I will be greatly surprised.

Those are things we don't discuss on this board. The reason why is a private matter.

Peele's '96 team was as good as any ever seen in the Big South. They totally blew-out one of the better LU teams in a game in the Vines for the conference championship. In the NCAA's Peele lost a close one in the final minute to a Cincinatti team that made it all the way to the elite eight that year.

In addition, his recruiting efforts helped turn around VA Tech.

Peele is a really good coach and an excellent choice for Winthrop.

I don't really get into all that personal rumor-based stuff.
