I'm not sure if this made it into one of the other 13 threads about Coastal, but the Virginian Pilot just joined the "Wait, why not Liberty instead of Coastal" club.
With all due respect to Coastal Carolina, Liberty was a better expansion candidate.

The school has made-for-FBS facilities, including a 19,000-seat football stadium, plenty of money and its own TV network: the Liberty Flames Sports Network, which reaches 80 million homes. The school teaches nearly 100,000 students through its online courses.

Liberty averaged 17,016 fans per home game last season, nearly twice Coastal's average.

You have to wonder if the school's religious nature was an issue. Liberty is a conservative Christian school and Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. is unabashedly pro-life and pro traditional values.

But so are the Catholic and Mormon churches. And those aren't issues with Notre Dame and BYU

Not going to lie it's nice to read something outside the Liberty bubble sticking up for us and how insane we got passed over simply because we are private and have a large online presence. Even though the online thing is far from a uniquely liberty thing these days.

I try to pretend I'm ok with it since it is just the sun belt but it's still hard to swallow. The sun belt schedule would still be more enjoyable than the big south.

Notre Dame joined the ACC in all sports except football (they did give the ACC 5 football games every year) and they also recently turned down bid to join the Big 10.

However, they only reason they are not outcasts now is because of TV ratings. They were rejected by Big 10 and other conferences in the 20's at the time they were constantly going undefeated and winning numerous national championships. The only thing that has changed is the advent of huge money generated by TV ratings. ND brings tons of eyeballs to the TV every time they play. Conferences controlled by liberal public secular universities will now hold their nose and invite ND into their mist to get those ratings. Only thing is, ND now holds the all the cards.

I'm not nearly as mad at Coastal as I am the SBC folks. Coastal got an offer and they jumped at it, same as we would. They're not ready, and I think it will be rough for them for several years, but they jumped at the offer just like we would have.

No, I have a problem with the Sunbelt people, who essentially said "Not only are we going to NOT invite Liberty, but we're going to find their biggest rival, a school that is nowhere close to as prepared, and invite THEM. Take that, Flamers!"

When you Consider that Moglia said after losing 70-10 to the Gamecocks 2 years ago that he would not play any more P5 teams because the gaurantee $$ wasn´t high enough the offset the downside of a virtually automatic loss and the risk of injuries from playing physically superior opponents, that scenerio would be..................... ¨ironic¨. I honestly think he would quit first.

I didn´t have any major problem with CCU til their President and AD both decided to rub it in our face. Now I do.

It's been a slow Friday evening on the Cider ranch, so I went looking for other message boards discussing Coastal's move up to the Sun Belt, but I was 0-3 in finding any talk about this outside of our board. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

Coastal and Furman drew 6,000 in their game at Furman. Looks to me as if 15,000-20,000 more would have came out to see the future Sun Belt team since they were playing in their home state. There are high school games with more than CCU-Furman drew.
