Dempsey gets credit for the goal, but Bradley's shot would have gone in anyway.
I'm not sure it would have. Better safe then sorry.

On a side note I had a haircut in high school similar to #3 for Guatemala and the Senior pictures to prove it!

USA drops the first game to Honduras, 2-1. Thoughts? It seemed like they didn't even try, but, it isn't easy to run around in 90 degree heat in mid-day. (Which was done because as night, people would get shot, and that's not a joke).

The first Honduras goal was fantastic. There wasn't anything the U.S. could have done to stop it. Klinsmman picked the wrong time to rock the defensive lineup - it was the first time three of the back four had played together.

Yes, the bicycle kick was unreal. But good news is the other two games were ties. So we're okay for now. I also agree about the back line... at times they seemed clueless.

I still have confidence in SpecialK. He was doing the same thing with the Germans and they finished fine.

Anyone watch the US/Costa Rica game in Denver? The blizzard conditions were amazing. I played and ref'd in a few games like this growing up in CT. I can understand why Costa Rica is protesting the result, but honestly they should have stopped playing when they had the chance.

Haven't seen a game like that in quite a while.

I did see it. It seemed to me that the Costa Rica players wanted to keep playing. I think Costa Rica is just dragging this out due to the loss. I'm sure some didn't want to play in the snow, but the majority of their players seemed okay with it.

Had the Costa Rica non-goal not been offside, they wouldn't have cared.

Costa Rica's coach stated before the game that the weather would have no effect on his team. Then, once he realized the US team was doing a better job of adapting suddenly wanted the game stopped. Considering all the games played in sweltering heat in CR and other countries, the way Mexico plays all it's home games at elevation at the Azteca, and other obvious advantages, the Costa Rica squad needs to just shut up. Playing to your home field advantages is part of sports.

My old LU roommate called and offered me a free ticket to the USA-Germany friendly in DC on 6/2. This will be my first international soccer match. Pretty pumped!

What should I expect?

Germany will be fielding a C level team, likely with no stars involved. Not sure about the US squad.

International friendlies are generally a good time. If anyone scores early then everybody just chills and tries to put on a nice show. Make sure you are early because the buzz leading up to the start is generally better than the action in the game itself.

Surprisingly fair officiating tonight in Jamaica. Concacaf has a terrible reputation, but it appears things are getting better as far as the top tier of officials handling qualifying matches.

What a final couple of minutes. I've erased my post twice. Getting the 3 points tonight is huge. The goal in the hex qualifying system is to get wins at home and ties on the road for a total of 20 points. That's been enough to auto qualify since the format was adopted. The Honduras loss had put us 1 point behind that pace, which likely would still have been good enough, but this win puts us on a 21 point pace.

Fantastic result.

Awesome experience. I "sat" about 8 rows up on the right side of the field (tv view). The atmosphere from the time I got on the Metro around noon to the time I got back to the station that night was incredible. I'm pretty sure the crowd reaction to Jozy's goal (first goal of the match) was the loudest man-made noise I've ever heard.
