what made the whole thing worse was listening to the broadcast team talking about how they transitioned from DII in 2004 and took only 7 yrs to win the national 'ship.

Now I know they were a DII powerhouse and are a state school, but c'mon man...

The amazing thing to me is that all four of the Dakota schools were pretty good this year, with three ranked in the FCS polls at one time or another I believe. If they combined and had a Dakota U that would be an extremely talented team no doubt. Haven't looked, but I assume they don't get much homegrown talent. I know Wyoming doesn't. One year I counted like three homestate kids on their roster. They mine the Denver area, and had a fair number from the west coast. And Montana obviously does OK. How they recruit to North and South Dakota is impressive.

NDSU is in Fargo which is not far from Minneapolis-St. Paul. They do a nice job of keeping the sparse homegrown talent and then take advantage of the mess that is the Golden Gophers program.
