New conference would not require them to take everyone in the current Big East lineup.

Basically, FSU and Clemson need to hurry up and make their move to the SEC or Big 12 so that the ACC can replace them with UCONN, Cincy, or whoever. This will make the nBE more stable. The dominos should start fall with CUSA replacing whomever is called up to nBE. Hopefully, we find a home as someones replacement. FSU and Clemson need to decide though.

Ahhhh I see. I'd throw ECU into that pool, they don't add a heck of a lot to the basketball product but something has to be said for their football program.

The Big Priest. Love it

Football, which was supposed to be the salvation of the Big East, instead lead to its destruction. I'm sure there are no lessons to be learned from that

The 7 learned the lesson and I do believe they will do well on their own.

1. Never forget your roots
2. "A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

Nothing beats a family.

Don't forget DePaul is the Largest Catholic University in America. It gives you the Chicago market, a widest presence and stirs the ghosts of Ray Meyer.

For the record, BJU has never claimed to be Baptist. Ever. But Belmont fits the Baptist bill. Even Richmond fits the Baptist profile as much as Wake ... which obviously isn't much other than historical reference.

If you are going Evangelical, then add in Pepperdine, TCU & SMU.

If the nBE decides to expand west, it would be without UNLV....
"No official representing the Big East has talked to me," UNLV president Neal Smatresk said in a text message. "We remain committed to the MWC."

Livengood has been critical of the decisions by Boise State and San Diego State to take their football programs to the Big East next year while sending their other sports to separate leagues.

UNLV has given every indication it would prefer to keep all its programs in the Mountain West and not do anything to negatively affect its nationally ranked basketball team.

Livengood sounds like he's repulsed with the thought of a football-only deal. Now if the nBE decides to operate an all-sports conference, would UNLV reconsider?

The only candidates that might jump for a football-only invite at this point is Fresno State and maybe Nevada. Fresno St. could easily put their remaining sports in the California-based Big West conference (e.g. San Diego St). Nevada would probably do the same, but will they leave without UNLV?

My prediction is that the nBE will eventually offer all-sport invitations to its western teams and operate as a 16-team conference. With UNLV doing good in basketball, the nBE might be open to doing this. This idea may be their best answer to the 'Catholic 7'.

Everyone is waiting to see how the Big East split goes down before moving forward with further realignment. This interview gives the best insight into what that might look like that we have seen thus far ....
Washington Post wrote:Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco: ‘We feel we have a very good league’

By Liz Clarke, Published: December 19

In four months on the job as commissioner of the Big East, Mike Aresco has become acutely familiar with the tumult of conference realignment, receiving departure notices from 10 members since September: Notre Dame, Rutgers, Louisville and now Georgetown and the six other Catholic schools that don’t play top-level football.

In a telephone interview Wednesday, Aresco voiced confidence the Big East will remain a viable league, partly by expanding west of the Mississippi. He also shed light on the rationale behind the Catholic seven’s breakaway. And he said he expects issues such as who gets the “Big East” name and privilege of holding its basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden to be negotiated amicably.
