The way I read that letter is, App St wants CUSA and CUSA wants App st but there are some barriers that need to be overcome. Also, I will state that I was half correct in stating App St didn't want to move up. Their AD did not, but the institution did. Now they have alleviated that barrier.

Sounds like CajunFlame is channeling SuperJon with that analogy!

To further that analogy, I hope LU and Appy State get to double date at the big dance!

Dude joined 5 days ago and has 50+ posts already. That must be some kind of record since the board moved over in '07.

The best part is that unlike some, he isnt a fly by nighter only out to trash the university (or bring up some past hurt because a coach was his friend or something)

HAHA! I hope my posts have not been excessive. I have stated before that I am an LUOnline student/military vet. This is my first semester at LU and I have quite enjoyed the classes and the direction of the university(I do not agree with everything the university does, so I am not drinking any kool-aid) I live about 3.5 hours away and am really getting a better knowledge of the athletic programs to be able to properly call myself a fan. I came across this message board during my research on Liberty moving to FBS(As you can tell from my posts I am very much in favor of this.) This board has really been fun and enlightening and I have learned a lot and have tried to bring my viewpoints to the table. In a physical conversation I can be quite sarcastic but on blogs and message boards I tend to be a little more straightforward and with Haize here I think there is enough sarcasm to go around. You guys have truly been a blessing and I do look forward to inundating this site with my opinions.

Cajun, what state are you in now? Hopefully, you can attend some nearby away games to really get the feel for LU athletics!

If this goes down, I don't see where this can go for us. CUSA has looked the other way and the MAC seems content and stable at their current number. I really only see a resurrected WAC east situation, or new conference formation being our shot at FBS for the foreseeable future. If none of this goes down in our favor, we can't look down on a move within FCS, we need out of the Big South no matter what at this point.

The Big East could be history by the end of the week, if the seven Catholic schools carry out their threat:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... ources-say

"Sources said Wednesday it's becoming 'more likely' the basketball schools will break away from the league's football members.

"It's unknown if they would attempt to dissolve the league or leave the league as a group. The league can be dissolved by vote of the league members by a two-thirds majority, according to Big East by-laws. With all of the Big East's recent defections, there are only 10 members (the seven non-FBS schools, plus Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida) that can vote on the league dissolving.

"A source told ESPN on Wednesday, Temple, as a football-only member, has voting rights, but can't vote on dissolution of the league. With Temple unable to vote, that gives the seven basketball schools enough votes to dissolve the league."

It's a mess out there. If Liberty has any options, they might want to wait until the chaos settles before they make any commitments.

That article is from 2 weeks ago. I think those 2 have always been an option because they're there and not going anywhere. Their only advantage is they don't have an FCS transition period. I don't see them getting in unless the SBC loses more teams and needs FBS band-aids.

Will be interesting to see what happens if the Catholic 7 bolt the Big East.
Rumor is the new TV deal for the Big East will be around $40m/year total.
If that is correct, the C-7 will surely leave. Would not be surprised to see Boise St. SDSU, Houston and SMU head to the MWC and bring BYU with them.
What would be left of the Big East would be in a bind. They couldn't really raid C-USA, because that would really be a lateral move at that point. They can't go back to C-USA because there is no room.
So they are left to raid the MAC, Sun Belt or FCS. Definitely seems like there could be an opportunity for Liberty there. The Big East will be desperate for brand names. Whatever people want to say about Liberty, the one thing that is true is that it is a nationally recognized name.
Is Liberty to the Big East likely? Probably not. Is it a totally crazy suggestion? Not anymore.

I see the Big East taking UMass before inviting any FCS schools. Villanova has the open invite but they stated they're not moving up. Big East accepting UMass for all sports wouldn't open any doors. That would knock the MAC back down to 12, and I think they're comfortable at 12. The only real option is Sunbelt expansion to 12 or 14, or CUSA expansion to 16.

Good for them, they don't need to tarnish their brand by sticking with that sinking ship, they with a few more schools added would be a great conference on their own

My CBS SportsCaster app just delivered a breaking news alert saying it's a done deal. Adam Zagoria just tweeted that Xavier, Butler, VCU, Dayton, St. Louis, Gonzaga, and St. Mary's are being targeted to join said seven former Big East schools.

Kricket wrote:So what does this do to Big East football?
Nothing, hypothetically, they still have 10 members set to play football in 2013 expanding to 13 by 2015. Obviously that can still change.

I don't think SDSU and Boise State matter, in that case you still have 8 members next year and expansion to 11 and can still invite other CUSA schools. Essentially those 8 schools need each other right now (barring if Cincy goes elsewhere) and they are still a better product than CUSA.

The kicker is that there are 10 voting members in the BE right now and 7 of them are these Catholic schools. They can vote to dissolve the conference with just a two-thirds vote.

I can see them doing that if the BE try's to enforce their exit fee and waiting period. That conference has been a train wreak the past few years.

I reckon the Big East should have taken that ESPN TV contract offer last year. Good luck ever getting that kind of offer again if the conference even exists in a year...

You know who else really probably secretly really wants the seven Catholic schools to dissolve the Big East? Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers, Pitt, and Syracuse. Am I missing any other Big East schools that are still in the BE but have announced they are leaving? They still owe exit fees to the Big East. Who do you pay the exit fee to, if anyone, if the league no longer exists? And does West Virginia sue to get money back from their exit fee payout since the league would no longer exist a year after they officially left?

A-10 is in for a major shakeup if this happens, but Xavier, Dayton, and Butler are the top three choices to join the Catholic Hoops league to be formed by the Catholic 7.
