Temple isn't in the MAC anymore and it is way out of our footprint. At least the Sun Belt puts us with schools in areas that are growing and have the best high school football to recruit from.

MAC, WAC, SUNBELT its all a wash when Geographics are involved. WAC ONLY has NMSU so us Flying to NMSU once every 2 years and then driving a BUS to JMU, Delaware, App State, or whoever else thats been mentioned in the WAC east Idea is a drop in the bucket. If you GOOGLE MAP all 3 Scenarios as if we were traveling all away games each year to the minimum confrence games you'll be suprised at the results.

I'm sure NMSU would love coming to the Mid Atlantic every other week. They need to figure out what the WAC is doing in the WEST first. (You know that's what the W stands for Study )

So you'd only take an invite from the Sun Belt? I'm not saying the MAC is the best option. I'm simply asking is there a chance at the MAC for an invite.

I'd take Sun Belt over MAC, but either one should be accepted if offered. I can't imagine the MAC doing so as we are well out of their area.

Well in all fairness... it took Louisiana Tech awhile to figure that out as well.

That would make sense if we actually were closer to the Sun Belt than the MAC, but we're not. We're closer to the MAC than UMass is. I even created a quick map for you. The MAC is obviously all the Northern Schools and the Sun Belt are the Southern schools: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&m ... 9972f04ef5

I am working under the assumption that we wouldn't be going up alone and that schools like App. St., GA Southern, and JSU would be part of the Sun Belt move. The biggest deal, for me at least, is getting to regularly play in great HS football states like Georgia, Florida and Texas (I believe they are still 3 of the top 5 states at producing FBS players per capita). I'll take that over the shrinking Rust Belt.

I agree with the recruiting point, but even after adding those schools you said the MAC would still be much much less travel.

Nope. I said that at least the Sun Belt:

We're not within either footprint, but if we're going to be in a conference like that, I'd prefer it be with the southern states with the better recruiting areas.

Assuming there is no FBS conference invitation anytime soon...
And assuming the CAA raids the Southern Conference for a school like Elon (as some rumors suggest)...
Could that open the door for Liberty in the Southern Conference?

That scenario would certainly be interesting form an alliance standpoint with AppST and GoSouthern, not to mention some interesting new rivalries.

I'd be all for the SoCon if they stayed in

Considering the idea that SB and CCU are leaving the BSC, then there's no value to the conference (not that there's much now).

SB is a done deal but Coastal has been looking to leave along as we have. Wanting to leave is a lot different then bing able to leave.

Well put. That sums up not only the Big South situation, but the FBS aspiration.

The three Southland additions are nothing to think about in general. The only thing it does is make it more obvious to Sam, SFA & Lamar that they need to move on. Along with McNeese, they stick out like sore thumbs.
