Idaho left because there aren't enough teams in the WAC for other sports.
I got that. But once again if the WAC had some sort of contingency plan in the works then why would they leave?

This idea is sooooooo far out there now that it's not even the WAC-East, its the EAC. It's just not viable at this point. Why would a Denver based conference just hold on to football to appease New Mexico State? If there ever was a WAC-E then it makes more sense now for those schools to try to form their own separate thing.

If I'm the WAC commish right now I'm scrapping the football idea and getting Utah Valley State, Chicago State, Texas Pan-Am, and maybe even NJIT on the phone immediately. It's not this conferences football that needs to be saved at this point, but the whole conference altogether.

I don't think it's a wise decision of any eastern school, whether it be Liberty or whomever to even consider the WAC. Good things come to those who wait, and MUCH better opportunities will likely present themselves down the road rather then this. People are manufacturing decisions out of fear right now, which rarely works out.

If the WAC fails, you cannot blame Hurd. You can blame Benson though for his rapid expansion plans. However, I must admit that Benson's personality / mojo was needed to keep the WAC's head above water this time around.

Will the WAC Choose the Four Horsemen or an FBS Future?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1279 ... fbs-future
1) Please don't ever source BleacherReport

2) It won't save the WAC? Right now the WAC isn't a conference in 2013. It's three teams floating in purgatory. It doesn't matter how competitive the conference is at this point, it's about getting eight teams to avoid become the Great West 2.0. It's not like Jacksonville State is going to make the WAC a more competitive conference than Utah Valley State. It's about survival now. Beggars can't be choosers.

@RVAparks,

I posted the Bleacher Report as a joke. Hopefully, others will see my post as the same. :P

Also, conferences just don't add teams and hope that things work out. They add teams that add value in a wide range of areas such as competitiveness, academics, research, market/ t.v. value, etc., etc.

Haha I still think somethings cooking up in the back ground! Idaho leaving makes it look even more obvious since they seemed to sorta be anti WAC-E before.

I think the only thing that can save the WAC now is... CAA football. They are a separate entity and I'm pretty sure their commish was the one inquiring about moving his conference up as a whole. His idea couldn't work because the WAC needed all-sport members, not partial members. Things are different now, especially since Idaho is gone. The CAA football entity could play under the WAC banner until the Montanas and Dakotas are ready to move up... Am I digging too deep? :P

The timing of Idaho's move is not coincidental. With Boise gone, there really was no reason to stick around. The WAC-East concept worked for them as long as BSU was in their league for the rest of sports. Without the Broncos, the WAC-East became a poorer versión of the Sun Belt left a few years back. And honestly, the Vandals had no business being FBS to begin with.

While this likely means the WAC is dead, I wouldn't pronounce it dead yet. It just became more attractive to Texas schools including the ones who just announced they are leaving. It is obviously a ridiculously long shot, but NMSU could organize a league of Texas FCS step ups.

Tom Yeager is the commissioner for both CAA and CAA Football. It's been that way for 5-6 years now.

Agreed on Idaho not belonging in FBS. If you've got a 16k bubble dome, you're a good FCS program.

It would be fun to see NMSU drag a few Texas schools up and form a new Southwestern Conference if they could get the rights to the name.

What will happen to the two Idaho sports that the Big Sky does not sponsor? Seems like a lot of trouble to find a home for men's golf?

The Big Sky is trying their best to kill off the WAC. I am going to laugh so hard when they try to petition the NCAA to be a new FBS conference... and then get denied.

To make things easier, I have created a template for posting in this thread:

Hey, I just heard that [nonsensical rumor] from [name of obscure source]said that Liberty is going to be joining [name of new conference that has a geographical name that makes no sense] for the [make up a random year] season! This has been confirmed by [Name of some random school's AD so everyone thinks you know what you are talking about]. FBS bound, baby!

Try to keep to the format so we can all follow what you are trying to say.
Thanks.

Hold up do we want to be in a conference with NMSU? LOL Isn't that the same school that was in the soccer playoff game where "girl grabbed pony tail and ripped her to the ground then punched the tar out of her"? LOL

What does this abstract fact have to do with conference realignment?

Well, poo. I forgot to include a place marker for "sarcastic remark questioning the loyalty/vision/intelligence of another poster."
Maybe an updated template is necessary.
