Yep, you pretty much got it. All I was doing was responding to Scar posing his question would I trade. To which I would say "not even close." Give me all of WU's wins over quality opponents vs. Davidson's 2 since year 2000. Programs and teams are judged by doing it over and over, not just a couple of games.

No they're not. George Mason has more credibility in their one Final Four run than Winthrop has in their championships. Davidson has the same with their current run.

NCAA results is what counts.

Wrong again. I've talked to plenty of people at work who still don't know where/who what Davidson is and asked me if they've ever beaten anyone like Winthrop has consistently.

One run gets forgotten, beating a lot of BCS teams over years does not.

C'mon cuz, where can I get me some of dat stuff? Smells like that high-grade Beverly Hills stuff.

Scar:

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a couple of years for Curry's NBA debut. Nonetheless, I stand by my statements, and I'll be com'n round to tell ya that I told ya so.

You can have your Kevin Love. I'll take my Curry. BTW-I like the kid from memphis too.

Just like people outside of the Big South don't know where/who Winthrop is. Face it, you're a homer with a serious combination of hate/jealousy towards what Davidson has accomplished. As a Liberty fan, I do wish we had the same success in the BS as Winthrop has over the past 10 seasons, but I'd trade it for a magical Elite 8 run without thinking.

I'd like to add that I wouldn't trade WU's future for LU's. Our's appears to be much more promising.

Interesting...I know several people who've heard of ODU, VCU and George Mason but you mention Winthrop they say "Who?" Right now, George Mason has a ton of respect and admiration nationally for their run to the Final Four. Winthrop is a virtual unknown outside of the region.

i couldn't even tell you waht state Winthrop is located in without having to look it up.

on the other hand, I can tell you Davidson is a private school located in Davidson, NC, with a population of less than 1,800 students, they provide laundry services to all their students so they don't have to do laundry, and they have a field hockey team. and I didn't have to look on the internet anywhere to tell you that...

I finally found someone here in Houston who has heard of Winthrop. He told me he's using the Final Four tix from WU's AD this weekend. Otherwise the Eagles, much like the Flames, don't have much name recognition beyond the Carolinas.

Fr the record, it has been only one WU fan making these statements. WEF & Horrez or other Winthrop friends haven't made one such statement.

Sounds like there is quite a bit of hatred and jealousy of WU on here, to even try to compare what Davidson has done to what WU has. WU has beaten top teams for years, while Davy has done it for one two week span over two games. Gimme a break.

Of course, it's probably hard to get anything into anyone's head that uses the word "cuz"

Oh, and how many of you take business trips around the country for work? I do---and many more people have heard of Winthrop than any other mid major save Zaga and Butler, I can tell you that.

Give up the hatred guys. Davy had a nice cute run, but it was just a couple games in one season, not over a period of years.

Ok folks...can we just go back to our corners and end this peacefully...Winthrop is a good team (not sure theyll hit Gonzaga level just yet) and that is to be lauded...Davidson is the team of the moment and they had a wonderful run that caught a LOT of people's attention. Itll be good to see how they do with Stephen returning for 08-09 but how about we just end this before a powder keg explodes or something.

Half the people at Liberty don't even know Winthrop except for the fact that we play them. However, for the past two weeks everyone has been talking non-stop about Davidson.

Davidson's success is something that's bringing much more notoriety than anything Winthrop has ever done. That's not a knock on Winthrop, just shows that a tourney run brings more than winning a Bottom 5 conference every year. I think the Notre Dame win was more of a Fluke than Davidson's Elite Eight run. That's not saying the ND win was a fluke, but if either of them are to be considered a fluke, it's the ND win.

Davidson's basketball team first reached considerable success in the 1960s under Coach Lefty Driesell, when Sports Illustrated ranked it No. 1 in the country prior to the 1964-65 season.

I don't think Winthrop has ever been preseason #1 in the country. Davidson lost to UNC 2 years in a row in the Elite Eight ('68 & '69). So, they have had success long before the "Cinderella" run this season.

I'm not saying Winthrop is a bad team...they're not. But, the success that Davidson has overall is more largely known.

WU has had more success in a longer period of time...True...

WU has not had much success in the national tournament....True

Nobody outside of this region knows anything about any Big South school.....True

You must go deep into the National Tournament to get aknowledged as doing anything great if you play in a conference like the Big South or Southern Conferences.....very True

In summary, what Davidson has done in the national tournament, when it most matters, is going to impress more people then winning the Big South Championship and losing in the national tournament every year....you get more respect, but nationally, people could care less.....if you can't understand that Realist, then...well, I just don't know about you...

A) Most people weren't alive in the late 60's to have a clue about lefty driesell. I'm talking recent history.

B) Davy has beaten 2 BCS teams in ten years until the two this year. WU has beaten multiples. If anything is a fluke, it's Davy b/c they haven't done it before.

C) Long term success brings more noteriety. If you can't get that, I don't know what to tell you. And WU has had the long term success Davy has not.

if it bring more noteriety then what Davidson did this past year in the tourny then why don't your everyday sports fan outside of the Carolina's have a real clue about who Winthrop is??

This has nothing to do with being anti-Winthrop by the way...I hope one day LU can have the success that WU has had...but i wouldn't be making outladish claims that this Davidson team isn't better then any team my school has had since WU has only one once in the tourny....to me, good to great teams are determined of if they can win the big games....not the early season games....and if you don't understand that, then I don't know what else to tell you

It's clear that Realist isn't such a realist. Up north zero people know who or where Winthrop is. I can tell you that these same people now know who Davidson is, where it is, how big it is, how they aren't monitored tested, all because of the run they made this year. You can downplay it by saying they got "hot," but that hot is hotter than Winthrop. End of story.

Your "C" contradicts your "A". You can't simply say, "don't count the past." I wasn't alive during UCLA's title runs under Wooden, but I can't say "oh, that doesn't matter" when it comes to talking about the program.

Who are these "most people" who weren't alive in the late '60s. You just eliminated over half the population of America.

And for the record, I live in Houston and travel a great deal for work. I'm in Dallas, DC & Seattle this month. I think I have a fairly decent grasp on national notoriety as opposed to regional chatter.
