Why does Fox refuse to hire announcers with the slightest clue about the facts of baseball? Justin Kutcher just asked Eric Karros if he would have voted for Miguel Cabrera over Mike Trout for AL MVP last year. Karros said yes, 100 times out of 100, and then gave this asinine reason for it: If you take Cabrera off the Tigers they aren't close to the playoffs, but if you take Trout off the Angels they finish right where they did.

The reality is the Angels had the best record in baseball after Trout joined the team.

How is it that hard to find someone remotely competent to cover baseball?

MVP = Most Valuable Player.

The player who means the most to their team's performance. That is what makes it distinct from the Hank Aaron award or the silver slugger awards for different positions.

jbock is spot on...its not Most Awesome Season Stats Player. If it was, then certainly Trout would have had a bit of a leg up on MC.

Because of that, I dont think that EK's comment on why he would have voted Cabrera over Trout is all that asinine, as opposed to your logic in disagreeing with his comment. Cabrera practically carried the Tigers on his back all the way to the World Series (although this was more a regular season award). Without him, he's right, they probably dont even sniff the playoffs, which would have put him right in the same position as Trout when the season ended last year...watching it on TV.

There's actual, factual evidence that Trout joined the Angels and from that point on they went from having a losing record to having the best record in baseball. To say Cabrera would have that same affect is conjecture, and to say Trout wouldn't have that affect is contrary to the facts. It's a moronic thing to say when one of the biggest arguments in favor of Trout last fall was the affect he had on turning that team round. Oh, and the Tigers made the playoffs argument is weak as well as they won the worst division in the AL while the Angels had a better record than they did.

Also, it's not MORE a regular season award, it's ENTIRELY a regular season award. The votes are turned in before the playoffs start.

It would help if you used the right word in making your point. EFFECT not AFFECT

I'd like to nominate Marty Foster, Mike Everett, Tim Welke, and Scott Barry (the whole crew) to the list of clowns who have no place umpiring the great game of baseball.

Maddon has been ejected the last two nights, plus this is the same crew that screwed us in Texas. This crew is clearly impartial and has it out for us in anyway possible.

Angel Hernandez can't even get extremely obvious replay calls right. MLB needs a complete revamp in their umpire rating and review process. I'm more than willing to sit through a year with replacement umps if it changes the system enough to make firing Hernandez, Joe West, and the rest of the clearly incompetent buffoons actually possible.

Add CB Bucknor and Bob Davidson to that list and I'm all for it. These guys are pathetic. I was watching the A's-Indians game live look-in last night on MLB Network and couldn't believe Hernandez didn't change the call after spending several minutes looking at the replay. MLB really needs to do something about the way umpires are disciplined and this situation would be a good place to start. Since MLB is finally using replay (although not nearly enough), how about having someone at MLB headquarters watch the feeds from every angle then relaying what happened to the on field personnel since they clearly can't handle the responsibility of making the right call themselves.

Exactly. The NHL model is by far the best for handling replay and I'm not sure why MLB wouldn't follow suit as it would be the least intrusive way to implement replay effectively.

I got Center Ice this year so I could watch more games with my schedule. It never takes too long for them to send it to Toronto to review the play.

The only question is, how can replay be implemented? What do you do if a ball is called foul that was actually fair? Who determines whether it would have been a double or single? Then, what if there is a runner on first? Would he have only advanced to second, or third? I believe that sort of example may hold up replay. But if anyone has a sufficient answer for that I'd be interested.

But above all, replays are used for home runs, and look at how many they still get wrong. It's unbelievable. Although it wasn't reviewed, I think about the "foul" ball of Izterus' foot last night. It landed three feet away in the dirt. Or the strike three in the dirt in Texas. That's just stupid. No amount of replay could fix that kind of ignorance.
