@logic

Don't get me wrong. I personally love Grand Canyon University. As a matter of fact, I am looking at their online DBA doctoral program. However, Grand Canyon's "for-profit" title is going to kick them in the behind in this game of conference realignment. Can school presidents see beyond their for-profit title? That remains to be seen.

Honestly speaking, the ONLY way GCU becomes a member of the WAC or any other FBS conference is if they can start a football team and play their home games at the University of Phoenix Stadium. They have to funds to make it happen.

I was too. Now they call me at least every week even after I told them I could not do it at this time! Study

Hahaha. I know the feeling. That's what happens when you give for-profit schools your contact info. :P

The Big East is leaning towards a "zipper" divisional format for football, similar to the ACC, instead of a East-West set-up. IMO, this news helps out the WAC. Schools on the fence like Delaware for example, will see that the proposed eastern division will be more "regionally" friendly than C-USA or the MAC.
As opposed to an East-West Divisional format, momentum in the Big East is for a "zipper concept" splitting natural rivals like Boise State and San Diego State and Houston and SMU, who would then play each year in a potential 6-1-1 format, sources said.

The eight-game conference format would include six divisional games, one crossover game and one rotating crossover opponent.

Dear LORD, IF JMU is LEADING THE teams Back East(per tony Jones article) for the Move to the WAC... WERE IN TROUBLE.....LOL

2 Quotes From the JMU Football (tumblr site)

1. "schools back east, led by James Madison and Jacksonville State, are making a push for FCS status, and could potentially enter into the WAC in time for the 2014 season."
2. "I like the move to go FCS, but, to the WAC? Trying to “save” a dead conference? "

These GUYS DONT KNOW That they are Already FCS... HAHAHAHA not just once but twice they confirmed they want to move to the FCS....LOL

A poster on AGS is "confirming" that Rhode island has chosen to stay in the CAA and not leave as they had previously announced. And the football league will be bringing in Albany & Stony Brook as associate members.

Still no word on Southern expansion. Allegedly Davidson & College of Charleston are the schools likely to be coming on board as non-football members and there is speculation that Elon might be headed north as well.

COC's board is expected to meet soon (maybe today or tomorrow) to discuss the matter further. Jeff Hartsell of the Post & Courier has a lot of good info on his Twitter feed. (@Jeff_fromthePC)

So if the CAA takes Davidson, CofC and Elon, who does the SoCon take to replace them? Coastal?

@ATrain

Coastal would seem the most logical for the SoCon. However, there are 3 other schools in the conference from the state of South Carolina that may block them (Wofford, Furman, and The Citadel). I think they may take a look at N. Alabama since Samford is the only member from Alabama. Kennesaw St. may get a look as well since Georgia Southern is on the way out.

It looks like coastal would be a good grab for SOCON.. lets be real why wouldnt you build a big confrence of small schools in one state?!?!...they would be stupid not to. Why Grab schools from 100's-1000's of miles away for any FCS confrence(unless you live in the Mid WEST AND THATS THE ONLY OPTION). Smart people do smart things. SOME PEOPLE IN FCS, that ARE staying in FCS have not done the MATH on making money long term(LOL..OTHER THEN JB, HE GOT IT..BUT WERE ON OUR WAY TO THE WAC) GET..BIGGER.. BETTER LOCAL... FBS thats a whole diffrent story in my oppinion....GO WAC-E

Isn't that 6-8 years from now?
We announced a 8 year donation drive and lots of people misinterpreted that as meaning it will be 8 years until we are fiscally FBS ready which is not the case. I think we will be ready by the 2014 season if an opportunity presents itself for that season.

IIRC, it was reported last week that the WAC was supposed to meet in 10 days. Sunday is the 10th day... Just saying. IMO, think any announcement regarding football will be sometime next week. If Liberty gets the call to join an FBS conference a week early, you won't hear any complaints from me. :P

I'm hearing the WAC is supposed to be making a surprise announcement regarding football either today or early next week.

Here's our weekly WAC update. There is no WAC update. I just spoke via email with Jeff Hurd, acting WAC commissioner, and asked him about WAC rumors regarding anouncements that were said to be immenent by some readers and unnamed media outlets. I can tell you that these rumors are untrue at this time, and nothing is imminent at all. He has not even heard these rumors himself, and there is nothing on the table to be done in the next several days, and I expect no announcements or conversations even until the end of August at the earliest now.
ie: forget about 'til you hear something. Like in SEPTEMBER. Maybe.

Coastal made a push for SoCon membership a few years ago. The SoCon said no thanks. Of course, the situation could be different this time.
