Not at all surprising given the injury to Westbrook made the Spurs the West favorite in many folks opinion. Now sweeping the Grizzlies, on the other hand, was surprising. I picked the Grizzlies to win it, but I thought it would take no less than six games and probably even 7.

Memphis not exactly as young as you think. Randolph is 31, Tony Allen 31, Marc Gasol 28, Prince 33. Conley and the rotation players off the bench are young, but they really only heavily used two guys off the bench for the entirety of the playoffs. But Memphis consistently only heavily used two guys under the age of 28 in Conley and Bayless, Arthur got a few spot minutes here and there at 12 minutes a game.

Average age of the guys who played in the playoffs: Memphis 26.62, San Antonio 28.50. Effective age of the guys who have played in the playoffs: Memphis 28.18, San Antonio 28.90.

So while San Antonio did use two really old guys a lot in Duncan (37) and Ginobili (35), they more effectively utilized their depth and younger guys to actually have their effective age negligibly more than their average age while Memphis more more heavily relied on their old players to play, raising their effective age by nearly 1.5 years over their average age.

memphis has 2 guys over 30 that play regular minutes, san antonio i guess would have at least 5 who play regularly (2 of which are closer to 40 than 30. they are older. memphis is on the right side of the young chart while san antonio isn't. glad your vast amount of mathematics showed that.

Randolph, age 31, 36.9 playoff minutes
Tony Allen, age 31, 28.1 minutes
Tayshaun Prince, age 33, 30.3 minutes
A combined 95.3 minutes per game from players over 30. Please do notice, Mr. Mathematical Smart Guy, that is three players, not two, over the age of 30 playing regular minutes!

Tony Parker, age 31, 37.0 minutes
Tim Duncan, age 37, 34.4 minutes
Manu Ginobili, age 35, 25.8 minutes
A combined 97.2 minutes per game from players over 30

so older and more minutes from the spurs. thanks...continue the good math work on the spreadsheets

memphis - emerging team with some vets that as a whole is on the young side of the spectrum

san antonio - a bunch of vets with some young regulars who help longevity but is on the old side of the spectrum.

Clearly you never understood the point and apparently aren't capable of understanding it. I never said Memphis was older. I never said the Spurs were younger. If you would actually take a second to read, you would see that I said Memphis wasn't as you seemingly think they are.

They aren't a bunch of new kids on the block like the Pacers are (David West exception). Four of their top seven players are on the likely backend of their career. Still performing at a high rate (well medium rate for Prince), but their best years are going to be mostly behind them from this point forward unless they all age as gracefully as ancient folks like Duncan and Kobe have managed to do. Gasol still will have some good year since he is the middle of what people typically consider to be the prime range.

The average length of an NBA career, as of the end of the 2010 season, was 6.07 seasons with an average retirement/NBA ending age of just a tad shy of 28. Only 92 players having played 12 or more seasons. The average career length for players who play 25-30 for their career is 9.21 season. Average length for players 30 or more is 10.88 season. Average for an all-star is 11.36 season.

Four of Memphis' starters are 28 or older. That's not on the young side. Randolph has already played in 12 seasons, Prince 11, Allen 9, Gasol 5 but he came in as an "old" rookie at 24. They are on the backends of their career, they aren't young bucks like you seem to believe.

dance monkey dance. i understand things all too well, trust me. this was way too easy. their team is young, their starters aren't the youngest starting 5 in the league, but they are young comparatively so to the spurs. i guess i should of said "younger" and you wouldn't of gotten your panties in a twist. As i hit submit on the original post it was a forgone conclusion that you'd spend quite a bit of time probably arguing about it. what a complete waste of time to argue about something so trivial. but i'm game. memphis is built for the future. experience and age is on memphis' side. 31 is so far away from 35 and 37 in basketball years. the difference is really exponential.

Trivial is a matter of opinion. 31 is far away from 35 and 37, I don't disagree with that. But to say that Memphis is built for the future is absurd when three of five starters are 30+ and a fourth one is 28 with arguably only one suitable replacement in tow (Pondexter for Prince). That is unless you consider the future to only be one or two years from now.

I actually think you are the one that is actually being trolled...trolls don't take THAT much time to respond because trolls don't actually care that much.

People troll you all the time for the hell of it

11-0 lead for Indiana and already Joey Crawford inflicts himself upon the game by calling a foul on a clean block to benefit Miami. How does Crawford, who is universally considered one of the worst officials in the sport, get a conference finals assignment? Even worse, what if he gets an assignment during the finals with his known feud/bias against Tim Duncan?

For reference, I was out around town from 2:30 to 4:30. Posting on, or reading, Flamefans is in all likelihood at the bottom of my priority list when driving, grocery shopping, or while enjoying a beefy crunch burrito (highly recommended if you have not tried it and I don't even like "Mexican" food) and a baja mountain dew.

Difference is I don't come on a board and whine and moan like a little girl who got called a bad name by the neighborhood bully when someone trolls me though. I like it when I get trolled, keeps things entertaining.

If I remember correctly, he was one of the refs mentioned in Tim Donaghy's book for cheating. He probably has dirt the NBA wants to keep swept under the rug.

Lance Stephenson's basketball IQ is absolutely horrible. He reminds me of the YMCA/Church league guy who never played past JV in high school, has maybe one good game in 10 and thinks its all about him even though he has 2 other guys on his team that played in the NBA.
Yes, I put that all in one sentence.

And Roy Hibbert is closing in on Rik Smits territory having surpassed Steve Stopanovich in Pacer Center history!

That's the best assessment of him I've seen. He's not aware enough of his own abilities.

Stephenson is a good defender and decent offensively. His problem is he thinks he has all star talent and attempts to make plays he has no business attempting

Just read that Hibbert/West have 82 rebounds while Bosh/Haslem have 32.

haslem is just bad. he is a complete liability on the offensive side of the ball. he's good for what? dunks? he certainly can't lay the ball in. his only use is as a rebounder and hibbert/west are taller and physically more dominant than he.

they need a 40+ night from james next week.

Are we allowed to say 'for the hell of it now'? Awesome!

I thought Posty was referring to me as the one being trolled. Since I believe Trolling in a mental disorder caused by spending too much time in your parents basement wearing you Jammie's , I will defer to those who study Trolls in their natural habitat. :D

The Pacers just work hard. Love the Blue Collar T-Shirts. May have to get one on the internets! The Pacers remind me of the teams back in the 80's and 90's where it was more about a team. I'm still not saying the Pacers will win the series but man would a Spurs v Pacer Final be a throwback. ( Like Mountain Dew Throwback which is pretty awesome)
