C-USA possibly expanding in the next 12-15 months...
The thing is, no one knows. And that makes it impossible to plan. Certainly, it's impossible to go ahead with a C-USA/MWC merger or even additional C-USA expansion.

"I think there's always a thought of mind that you can always get to 16 if you want to," Parmley said. "So we're kind of holding those last two spots to see what shakes out in other conferences over the next 12-15 months.

"I think with the ever evolving daily conversations about what the bowls are going to look like, that kind of puts it on hold, too, to see how it's going to shake out with the bowls."

The CAAzone has been talking CAA expansion with all of the above candidates for some time with the exception of Furman. That one makes no sense for either the school or league. Allegedly Elon would jump in a heartbeat while CofC & Davidson are less enthusiastic about joining.

Everyone assumed Stony Brook would leap at the chance to join CAA just a few months ago. But there have been media reports the past couple of weeks during their CWS run that they may be following our path of aiming higher.

Why would they move their Olympic sports to the B12 at the cost of playing 6 games in football against B12 schools when they have no such restrictions right now? Part of their value to NBC is that they can play a big name school almost every week. I'm saying this doesn't happen. There's no point to it.

Ingram Smith ‏@IngramSmith

from 5/21/12 MT @IngramSmith Looking more like the Big 12 will grow to 12.5 (ND Olympic sports) w/ a plan for full membership down the line

If this does happen, then this means the ACC refused to budge on its 'all-sports' demand to ND. I don't blame them either. You've seen what they did to the Big East! Notre Dame has been the biggest leeches in CFB.

Horrible fit IMO. ND has more following on the East Coast and Midwest. I have no idea what their fear of the B1G is about. They already play at least 3 of their football games against them. Makes no sense :dontgetit

Haize -

I have a feeling the following happened -

1. Swarbrick approached Jim Delaney asking for the same plan for ND in the Big Ten
2. Delaney refused and said only if you bring football right away as well
3. ND then went the Big 12 route

I agree with you though - MUCH better fit in the BIG10 and they are already in the footprint. Would be much easier travel wise in the BigTen with trips to Purdue and Indiana obviously close but then Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern as well. Would just make much more sense. I can't see the Olympic Sports coaches being happy about a ND move to the Big 12 when the Big10 is right in their backyard.

Who has been consistently stating ND to Big XII was most likely scenario for the past couple of years? Wait, I guess that was me. Never mind.

I would suspect that the Irish will have the Horns & Sooners on their schedule annually moving forward with another Big XII game or two to fill gaps. Service academies may be tightening up their schedules with Big East membership.

I would also think that moving to the Big XII with the football requirement discussed would allow ND to play more games at Jerry's World, Reliant, Arrowhead, etc... They could potentially get more of the gate then traveling to the traditional B1G schedule. Just a thought....

So Notre Dame will be in the same conference as WVU? Something seems so WRONG about that. :nono

Haven't they been in the same conference for quite awhile already?

RVAparks - You are correct. This could be a financial windfall if played correctly.

Notre Dame AD shoots down Big 12 report—for now

The Texas-focused website Orangebloods.com, citing unidentified sources, said that Notre Dame could announce that it is moving its non-football sports into the Big 12 “before the end of the summer,” with the football program also promising to play a series of games against Big 12 opponents.

But Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick denied that report, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“I have no idea what prompted that. It is not based on any discussion, any meeting we have done,” Swarbrick said...

A source close to Notre Dame told Sporting News that the Irish likely would welcome an invitation from the ACC if the ND football team could remain independent, but to this point the ACC has preferred to remain an all-sports conference with no hybrid members.

If this is true and App St accepts the CAA invite, the WAC East idea has gone down in flames (no pun intended). If they decline, they've decided to wait for an FBS invite from either the WAC or the Sun Belt.

If App goes FBS, counting Charlotte, that would be 7 FBS schools from NC. Im not sure the state budget is ready for that. Being private may help us move before App.
