This will certainly make Sports Center and every other highlight show, but I just saw something I've never seen before in baseball. Michael Morse hit an apparent grand slam against the Cards. The umps ruled it in play and Morse ended up getting thrown out as the bases got jammed up with Nats jogging. Harper scores and it's 1-0. The umps go to review the play, come back out, then signal home run. The fun started when they explained to the Nats dugout, for some reason, that everyone had to go back to their original base including Harper to 3rd and Morse to the batters box. Morse then did a pretend swing and all the Nats ran the bases and the 4 runs were counted. I have no idea why the umps made everyone go back and Morse do a fake swing.

Nats clinch the NL East at least a year ahead of schedule.

Since the beginning of September Bryce Harper has put up .330/.398/.651, 7 HR, 7 2B, 3 3B, 26 R, 14 RBI, and 4/5 SB. Just ridiculous for a 19 year old kid.

So, the Tigers have clinched. With Miguel Cabrera having only a 1 HR lead to complete the triple crown......do the Tigers sit him for the last two games?

Id say no. Hamilton and the Rangers know they wont go to the playoffs but he is gonna want to pass Cabrera for the home run title (small solace as that may be)

Did anyone remember to tell the A's that there's already one amazing story happening down the wire here and there's no room for another?

For all the stuff MLB needs to fix with the umpiring system, this is the second straight year where the last day of the season has meaning in multiple cities. Home field in both leagues is still up for grab, two divisions in the AL, and home field for the WC game in the AL. It's not quite the synchronized historical collapses of last season, but it's still a pretty phenomenal scenario for the last day of a 162 game season.

Teddy Won! That's all that really matters. Nats Park was louder for that than for clinching the division on Monday.

Wow, that could be the worst call I've seen in a long time. Braves got absolutely screwed. Fans threw objects on the field everywhere, and honestly, you almost can't blame them.

Good to see that the "best" umps are capable of making the worst possible call in the biggest possible moment during a game. Umps are useless, outside of helping to clear up brawls, at the MLB level.

Jim Joyce needs to never be allowed to umpire 1st base again. We're in the 2nd inning and he's already missed a call against each team that was so obvious they've rolled out he Gallaraga perfect game film.

Unbelievable. Storen threw 7 strikes, by the ball/strike chart, that were called balls. Two very different strike zones down the stretch and the Nats couldn't overcome it.

Next year.

They are like a horror movie character that it is impossible to kill .You blow them up, you light them on fire, run over them with a bus, impale them with a thick steel rod...but they keep...coming...back...

One word... Strasburg.

But I'll go ahead and make a prediction, please, somebody write it down. Strasburg will have another great year next year (of course), and all the sports writers and OTL will talk about how great a decision shutting him down was when in reality it was completely irrelevant.

Do not doubt me. It will happen.

My prediction: Strasburg hits the DL at some point next year with an arm problem at despite being shut down this year.

Nah, he's essentially on the Verlander trajectory, TJ surgery and all, with even better stuff and results at 23/24. The guys who have a 2nd TJ surgery are the ones like Prior and Wood who never get properly handled in the first place. They'll take the slow, smart route next year and get him something around 190 IP during the regular season with no restrictions in the playoffs.

The Nats simply need a LH power arm in the bullpen, a SP to replace Jackson, and possibly a LH bat in the OF with Morse getting moved. That's it.

I didn't say he was going to have a second TJ surgery. I just made a prediction that he'd hit the DL at some point next year with arm trouble.

I'm not sure how he's suddenly rediscovered himself, but Giants fans should thank Barry Zito for visiting them from the past.

Mike Trout wins AL Rookie of the year, Brice Harper wins NL Rookie. Personally, I thought it should have been Wade Miley.
