true...you don't have to be very athletic to be a succesful pitcher or DH for that matter....but its far more common for golf...any "sport" where you can smoke while you're playing and still be successful just loses its credibility as a true sport to me...and I LOVE to golf...and really wish i had the time (and money) to play...its been way too long
david wells used to smoke a pack a game.
I'm pretty sure half the NBA smokes -- and a good percentage of the players do it during games. But those "smokes" don't come in packs...

Babe Ruth

I agree Babe Ruth was more dominant. Here's what I pose to you though: which is more impressive, Babe Ruth dominating the way he did over the lower level of competition at the time or Tiger dominating the way he does over an greatly increased level of competition?

I honestly have to think about it.
It's debatable whether the level of competition was that much lower. There were much fewer teams then, and more people played baseball. I know there weren't Latino's and Black ball players, but as I said, the talent pool among white players was probably higher. Also, there aren't many Black players playing baseball now (The lowest percentage since the 50's) and I think that has cut down on the current talent pool as well. Fortunately, Latin players and Japanese players have somewhat made up for the difference. I do wish more Black kids would play baseball but the NBA seems to have a strangle hold on that department.

I don't understand your first sentence. And I know, football is totally different. Bob Feller played in the 1940's and 50's and threw the ball over 100 mph. Many people were alive then who saw Walter Johnson pitch and they debated then who threw harder. So don't tell me Babe Ruth didn't face tough competition.
