Of course, then there is this regarding big men....
This is what I wrote in July 2004:

"The 6-foot-9 power forward from Poplar Bluff, Mo., has ascended to the class of 2005's No. 1 ranking. He's a nice player and all that, but ... what? If he's the best player in the class of 2005, the class of 2005 is even worse than people say. Luckily for everyone else, Hansbrough isn't the class' best player. Or the best power forward."

So who was the best power forward? Unfortunately, I had the answer. I'm going to save his name for a second. Build the suspense. Trust me, it's worth it.

This is what I wrote in July 2004:

"(This guy) rarely gets compared to Hansbrough, presumably because Hansbrough is so much better. Well, here's a dissenting opinion. Asked to make the difficult choice between the two, I'd take (this guy) over Hansbrough -- and then wonder when you were going to present me with a difficult choice."

(This guy) was Josh McRoberts.

Which makes me an idiot.

where are you hearing that..........

duke will be fine next year,

1 greg paulus.......... experience, leader, great three point shooter
2 joh scheyer............ can get to the hole, shooter, good defender
3 gerald henderson.......... best basket attacker in acc, and with another year under his belt he will be ACC POY canidate
4 Kyle Singler........... he will be even tougher next year
5. Lance Thomas .........started every game last year, with the experience and possibly some more weight, he will be a good defender next year

6 Nolan...... great composure and with demarcus gone i look for him to score more next year.
7 Brian "Z"....... needs improvement.

Okay so duke is loosing Demarcus who was a great defender and rebounder, but in return they are getting 7 of their top 8 guys back, with another year of experience.[/quote]

are you serious? duke won't go anywhere with those guys. they were ridiculously streaky this year with what should've been a 10 man bench. what you have there is 7 people, assuming Z stays healthy and learns to catch the ball. oh, and hoping that gerald and lance's surgeries go well and they recover quickly.
henderson is the only person on there who is genuinely good. paulus and scheyer are either hot or not, and when they aren't they ought to be on the bench cause they can't hit anything. for duke to compete next year singler and smith have to step it up, and we need at least one more person coming off the bench

if not for going to Duke, no one would consider Paulus a good player. he is an OK player. He has his status grossly inflated because he wears a duke jersey, just like nearly every other player on their team.

- paulus comes through in thirds... meaning he might be good the 1st and last third of the season, or maybe just the middle third, or maybe the 2nd and last third. i will give him the "leader" title.
- scheyer can hit free throws... a hustler... not a key player for the devils. he was significant for the devils 5 or less games this past year,
- henderson can do it. i want him to be 100% healthy, no exceptions, SO BAD. he's the man.
- singler made me think he was going to DOMINATE after maui. he didn't. i see him playing a major role on the team this coming year. he needs to. he didn't impress me like i thought he would this past season.
- lance.... really coming along. could suprsingly contribute 10+ pts and 10+ rebounds this year. i hope for it, but wouldn't bet on it.

nolan - yes... a good player. can't wait to see him next year. HUSTLER.
zoub - he decided to be better towards the end. who knows. not me. clumsy.

duke will be fine. that's all though. college bball has turned more and more to an athletic game for street-ballin-like athletes. duke's been left behind.

Actually, Dook just doesn't get all the calls like they once did......

Every other teams flops....that is not streetball, rather "Dook Ball"....

Yeah, Dook ruined the game and now it has turned on them (the irony).

The key for next year is how much Elliot Williams and Olek Cyzk can contribute as freshman. Olek is a strong rebounder and likes to dunk everything but outside of that, he has to develop some kind of post move and it remains to be seen how much range he has from the perimiter.

Williams on the other hand is being compared to Ewing. If he can come in and produce like Daniel did, we'll be alright.

Its funny how for the last few years, dook fans continue to say this. Its like their only hope is how good the incoming freshmen can be. If you are relying year-after-year on freshmen and not your returning players, its a clear sign that your program is not going in the right direction and the staff is not developing the talent they already have.

I kinda feel bad for him that he made such a poor decision.

Anyway lets get to some real talk. K should obviously have gray hair at this point in his life. I don't believe for a second that with his job stresses and at his age, he still has his original hair color. Dude needs to just let his gray grow in.

Not a dook. That was a stipulation set by the coaching staff...b-ball only.

What's really weird is that his brother is coming off his red-shirt year as a QB at Carolina.

Sad but true. The players Duke have recruited aren't guys you can build a team around. Scheyer is a very good player but if you're running every offensive set through him, you're in trouble.

Paulus looks great one minute and the next he looks completely lost. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nolan surpase him in the starting lineup if he's around next season.

i don't think reik is the kind of player duke needs to go after. i can't imagine k has offered him... but scout.com says he has.

the team had definite potential this past season. they have even more this season with the return of so many players. hopefully they'll be consistent this coming season.

paulus is hot or not................. thats dumb, he shot 42 percent, that is pretty hot. 83-196 and for all you UNC fans wayne ellington shot 41 percent 77 -186

7 of 8 top guys returning. Duke will contend for the title next year. some of you duke haters need to take a visit to Psycho T's medicine cabinet.

Thing is, Ellington is a shooting guard. Paulus is playing at the point. It's sad when your PG chucks almost 200 3's in a season. He should be a SG. Him playing the PG spot is one of the downfalls of dook's current team.

anyone who thinks this duke squad can contend for an ncaa title next season shouldn't be allowed to comment on college basketball.

i agree. i don't know why we go after 4 year players if we are going to rely on freshman every year. may as well get some ballers who know how to play instead of slow white guys that make an occasionally 3 to play point
