without 2 of their best players and in the middle of a coaching transition in which the players weren't buying into Gillipie's philosophy to start the season. it's like in football, if you lose very early in the season, it doesnt count as much in the BCS as losing late in the season. unless you go undefeated, it is better to finish strong and start weak than than to start strong and finish weak. once they got healthy, mainly getting derrick jasper back, they started winning games again. They were 13-7 with Jasper, 5-6 without him.
every other team rated higher in the RPI than kentucky lost games they had no business at all losing, but of that lot, kentucky had more quality wins and went into the tournament winning 9 of their last 12 games in the fourth best RPI conference, most of the other bubble teams could not boast such a resume...
