Liberty doesn't play in the ACC

You act like the ACC is a major power football conference. In any given year, half the teams in the league are terrible.

I knew that was coming. It depends on your definition of terrible. Duke has been terrible, the other teams haven't been terrible in the past 5 years or so.

I just don't see them being able to beat more than 2 acc teams in any given year and getting to .500. First of all they'd have to schedule 4 pansies, which right now there is no such thing as a pansie for duke. Even if they scheduled 4 1-aa teams, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost at least one of those.

Won't be tough to beat CSU. No need to laugh, you should feel bad for us.

You're talking about how they are right now. If this guy is a good coach, they're going to be better in a few years than they are right now. It's simple logic.

No I'm talking about how they've ALWAYS been:

2007: 1-11
2006: 0-12
2005: 1-10
2004: 2-9
2003: 4-8
2002: 2-10
2001: 0-11
2000: 0-11
1999: 3-8
1998: 4-7
1997: 2-9
1996: 0-11
1995: 3-8
1994: 8-4
1993: 3-8
1992: 2-9
1991: 4-6-1
1990: 4-7

I can keep on going. Past results are the best indicator of future performance, its simple logic.

the past isn't the best indicator when the school starts pouring millions into the program, hires an all new staff, and overhauls the stadium. this is a completely different program beginning now. the past has nothing to do with what Duke will do in the future.

bottom line, talk all the crap you want. when duke starts doing good, your gonna feel stupid. i'm not saying they'll be in a bowl this year, but i think in the next 2-3 years they will be. i guess we'll just have to wait and see though

It's not like the rest of the ACC is just going to roll over and die. All the other teams are facing the same battle that Duke is in regards to winning, except they have at least some form of history. Every single ACC team has something they can hang their hat on that has happened in the past 5-10 years. Does Duke? Nope.

I guess its good then that the bowl trophies don't list anything about the last 5-10 years on the plaque then isn't it...

if they would have had a coach and decent conditioning last year they would have beat ND, wake, and unc.
coach cut said that this is the worst conditioned team he has seen in 32 years of football. they have already lost over 300 lbs as a team in 7 weeks of conditioning.
i know none of you crackin on duke know anything at all about the actual duke football program or any of the games they played, but if you did you would know that they fell apart at the end of the game consistently, which is mainly a conditioning/coaching problem.
duke has talent on the same level as wake right now, and after some good recruiting should be even better.
the trustees just approved $5 million for Wallace Wade improvements.

so talk about the past all you want, but duke has never spent money on the program in the past, has never had a real coach (besides spurrier, who won games), and in general just hasn't cared. this is all changing now. you talk about the past, but i'm going to look forward to the future.

manson, i definitely was not talking about this year. if it's going to happen, it's going to take a few years. however, i do think the program will be stronger this year than in the past.

Yea, it's impossible for a bad team to get good with the right coach and money being given towards the program.

jdub buddy i hate to break it to you but throwing money at a program and getting an actual coach isn't always the fix it of every terrible football program in the country. it helps and Duke might win some games next year especially since they are in an inferior conference to the SEC. of which we all know is the best conference in the country. I'm just saying don't get your hopes up. a school like Duke has problems just like every other academically snobby school in the country they can't recruit the talent they need to win games consistently. yea there will always be your upsets where they win but on a consistant basis Duke will more than likely not win games because of recruiting. if you start to win consistently that coach should be credited with doing a dang good job of making mediocre athletes into ACC talent.

If you want to stick with the LU argument that's fine. Those records aren't even close to what Duke had during the same time frame. Go back and look at their records, and it has been like that for their whole football history save a handful of years. Liberty has at least had some success in the past.

We're talking about 6-6, not 10-2. Duke can get to that level with a good coach and money in the program.

Everybody talks about how great Steve Spurrier did there, I wouldn't call this great:

87: 5-6
88: 7-3-1
89: 8-4
Only one bowl appearance in '89 when they got destroyed by Texas Tech, 49-21, and you've seen what they've done since.

Manson, can you not read? No one is talking about "great." They're talking about being a .500 ballclub, and Spurrier proved you can do that at Duke.

im not saying they will be 10-1. i'm saying, like SJ already said, 500. if they can consistently be 500 or better i'll be happy. this year, i think 4 wins is a reasonable expectation. if you don't think thats possible, you don't think duke will ever win more than 2 games a year you are crazy. and FFG, duke already has good athletes on the team, they are just not in shape and have not been coached any. coaching is what takes players from talented to great players.

manson, i'm not sure why your so down on duke football, but i think you'll be taking back what you said come november

good athletes=in shape good potential athletes=not in shape.
the skill sets may be there but until they are conditioned and in shape enough to run with the ACC they won't have good athletes. IMHO
