How have so many never heard of him, I'm an eagles fan and I've heard of him. He was a beast, just ran over people. I've seen highlights and junk, I guess I was too young to actually watch

For all of you who have never heard of John "Freaking" Riggins, have you ever heard of the following?

Roger Staubach
Franco Harris
Ken Stabler
Earl Campbell

I have to tell you guys that I am dumbfounded.

Love Earl Campbell. Beast.

Franco too, and he is involved in one of the craziest plays in NFL history. If you don't know him, you fail at NFL 101.

I got all 5

Better question:

The Catawba Claw won the ROY in 1967. Who did he play for and what was his name?

PS - The only Catawba College player ever to start in a game

every Cowboys fan knows John Riggins...aka "the Diesel". You hated everything about him and Charlie Brown and the fun bunch too. If you ever ask Joe Bugel (former OL coach of the Redskins for you youngsters) what his favorite play was it was "I formation, 40 Gut". That's the play that Riggins made a living on and won their super bowl over the dolphins in January of 83.

But, how can you not know that Riggins also played for the fine NY Jets as well.

I kept thinking I was familiar with the name but it just hit me who he is. Riggins broke for a 43 yard TD on 4th and inches against my Dolphins in the 1983 Superbowl to put the Skins up for good.
