canes tied for first in division...avs second in division. so if the playoffs started today, canes a 3 seed, avs a 5 seed. look, im just glad you are a hockey fan.....it is rare to find a true hockey fan. i started going to minor league games when i was a kid and then started going to caps games back in the day and when i moved to NC was the first year the canes were in NC playing at the greesboro colisuem before the RBC was built. in much respects the teams are very similar in that they moved from other cities. no doubt in the overall scheme of things the avs have had more success, but recently it is all canes. TTL...prove to me your fandom....where did the avs move from?? :D

The Colorado Avalanche were formally the Quebec Nordiques. To my knowledge they never won a Stanley Cup while in Quebec (heck they never even made the Stanley Cup Finals while in Quebec) and were the only other NHL team in that particular province.

Smoothie, your point about the place in the division means nothing, the Avs have more points, aka a better record, therefore a better season.

And I knew where the Avs moved from, do you know where your beloved Canes moved from?

TTL..that is crazy man!. seeding in the playoffs means a lot though in hockey when a goalie gets hot in the playoffs you can go a long way. i will take a 3/6 matchup over a 4/5 anyday... canes v. penguins, and sharks v. avs. i admitted in the big picture the avs are better, but now ie. past few years trhe canes are better IMO. and sch14 i do not need wikipedia to validate my hockey knowledge  as other than football it's hockey for me, and my close friends know that....oh yeah and the canes moved from hartford, conn. LONG LIVE THE WHALE!

Ok, Penguins fan here from Tampa Bay, back in the 60's NBC used to broadcast the NHL hockey game of the week, back then Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe were playing. Watching the games is how I learned about the game and love it to this day, the only professional sports I will watch.
So Penguins are my first team, followed by Minnesota Wilds, I loved the North Stars, then Nashville and then Tampa Bay.
BTW when Tampa Bay first started their team they played all their homegames at the state fairgrounds in Tampa.
Also back in the 60's the ECHL had a team in St Pete called the Suns, I saw a young player play againist them called Bobby Clarke. Later when on to star with the Flyers

The AVS are still pretty strong even though the big stars on the team are out injured. They are a fun team to watch. Lots of young guys who play hard the entire game. Rumor has it here that Forsberg is wanting to come back to town. Could make things even more interesting here.
