As the resident Marlins fan....at least they got some good players in the deal...but it's hard to get momentum for a new stadium and fan support when you continually deal away your most recognizable and/or best players. That was probably about as good as they were going to get for Cabrera, so I'm not too upset...of course i've been desensitized by all the past trades/firesales by the Fish, so maybe I just don't know any better.

As the resident Maybin fan...
...in 3 years they may regret it. He'd only be a junior in college this year...THAT is how young he is. The Marlins got a rising star. He was rated #2 in the draft after Justin Upton...a close 2nd.

Here's the issue, though -- he is young -- real young -- which means that he's going to be hitting free agency at a time when his stock is just about to go through the roof. And that means that the Marlins won't be able to afford him.

Look at how the Marlins handled Cabrera.

If you ask me, this is the Marlins trying to b*tch and moan about how they can't compete with the big boys (despite winning two world championships), and trying to tell South Florida that they need to pony up for a new stadium.

The Marlins are the sports equivalent of that girlfriend who'd be total hottie if she weren't such a psychopath -- the kind who'd slash your tires if you bought her the wrong type of shampoo.

The Marlins drew 375 fans to a game last year...and had attendance issues even when they were good. Miami has no business being in MLB. Move them to Vegas.

They had attendance problems when they won the Series in 2003, because they got off to a terrible start and it wasn't until the end of the season that they came together, and the fans did, too.

Fans would show up if management didn't continue to give everyone in Miami the middle finger year-in and year-out.

Here is the recent history.
2007 – Marlins 30th
2006 – Marlins 30th
2005 – Marlins 28th
2004 – Marlins 26th
2003 – Marlins 28th- World Series Champs
2002 - Marlins 29th
2001 – Marlins 29th
1997 – Marlins World Series Champs

I'm sorry, Ed...that is a trend. Will a new ballpark help? I have no idea...but it is entirely possible that Miami is just a lousy baseball town.

They over paid for Andrew...

I cant say anything bad about the Fish...they have a method behind the madness...you know how many other teams would trade ALOT for the World Series titles? Just ask a Cubs fan...they dont spend money....that's OK...the only reason I dont have a problem with them unloading every 3 years is b/c they shouldnt be loyal to a fan base that isnt loyal to them...if they were actually drawing 10,000 to every game then I'd have a problem...but not until the relocate

I had a good convo with Buster Olney yesterday about my buddy Jose who just signed a new contract...I should be seeing him again today at lunch (Buster that is) so let me know if yall have any questions you want me to run by him...

You need a have a retractable roof for that stadium, i mean it rains like every other day. I wouldn't go to a game either.

Even when the Dolphins were good, they rarely sold out. Any excuses for that.

That is a lie. The Marlins don't need a retactable roof. I live 10 minutes from the where the Marlins play and the rain very rarely affects the games. Yes it does rain a lot during the summer down here but the storms roll in around 3 and are gone by 5. you can set your clocks to them. The Marlins have had no more games rained out than the rest of the league.

Anyone was going to overpay for Jones. He was worth about $12mil/per year and got $18.

Yea...but he only got two years. He is only 30, had one down year, and can only get a 2 year deal? Boras can not be happy. Think Boras is starting to annoy even more GM's?

it's called south beach....as much as I love baseball, half naked tan women where parts of the beach are nude will tempt just about anyone!

personally, I believe he got a 2 year deal b/c nobody is confident in his actual age...he could easily be 33 without a soul knowing but him.

Fact of fiction: Florida's management basically pwned the roster after each series win?

How long did 1997 stars Gary Sheffield, Edgar Renteria, Moises Alou, Al Leiter and Kevin Brown get to stick around for after they won the World Series? NO ONE made it to 1999.

How about 2003? Ivan Rodriguez left. Same with Derrek Lee, Brad Penny, and Mark Redman. Luis Castillo, Juan Pierre, Mike Lowell, Alex Gonzalez and Josh Beckett only made it two more years. It doesn't surprise me when you show stats that say that the Marlins suck at attendance. Management hates the fans, and has done pretty much everything to alienate them.

I guarantee you that fans from North Carolina fans would do the same if they had a baseball team and the owners treated them like dirt. If you don't believe me, walk through Charlotte with a "George Schinn is my B.F.F." shirt.
