Go Shockers!

Man. I'm glad we're not the shockers.

Keep in mind, his decision to return to WU last year was a good one. Afterall, he was returning to a great situation with Martin and Bradshaw in their senior seasons with a very good chance to win in the NCAA's. In addition the College of Charleston job was not the step up that it once was seven or eight years ago.

Turning down the Wichita State job would be down right silly at this point, especially when you consider that Bradshaw and Martin will not be easily replaced anytime soon. This is a no-brainer, even for someone as indecisive as Marshall. Actually, I give him a lot of credit for resisting the South Florida offer and patiently holding out for this one.

I covered P.J. in high school here in Houston and he's a real baller.

I admit I'm shocked (pun intended) to see WSU offering up a cool mil to GM when they weren't paying Turgeon that kind of jack.

So lets assume for argument's sake that Marshall is going to take the WSU job, which its pretty clear he would be stepping into a good situation. Is this a landing place or simply a stepping stone? If Marshall does well at WSU he's gonna have to be given serious consideration for a big-time job.

He will be in a position to succeed at WSU and if he does so, the big options will come his way as we saw with his predecessor.

I'm still stunned by the type of money we are talking about for a coach in the Mo Valley.

Given the financial implications, the source said Marshall -- who only makes about $400,000 a year at Winthrop -- is expected...

HAHAAA.... ONLY?????
I think that puts him in a pretty high tax bracket... Poor Greg ONLY makes 400K a year to coach a game.

I know how the system works and why it's justified based on revenue generated... but c'mon... a reporter shouldn't use the word "ONLY" to describe 400K/yr.

You use the word 'Only' when the other job is offering around a million dollars...

For most of us, even under those circumstances the word "only" seems an odd fit.

Hopefully Gregg let's everyone know what he thinks fairly soon. And after the CofC incident, I'll bet they have him sign on the dotted line before they announce anything. He does have a history.

I don't know how I feel about this. I would love to see McKay go head to head against Marshall and knock him off his high horse. But then again this is not a done deal yet.

Greg Marshall is expected to be announced as the new head coach of Wichita State today at 1 PM Kansas time.

Marshall is a special coach and it's to our benefit that he is moving on.

This one looks like it's actually happening.

Stop by the Winthrop board. For some, it's practically wailing and gnashing of teeth. One of their posters just keeps repeating, "We're done!"

The newser is 1:30pm Central Time ... that's 2:30 for those of you who can't comprehend anything beyond the eastern time zone.

There's something outside of the eastern time zone?

I didn't realize there was anything in the world of sports beyond the Yankees and Red Sox. The Cardinals get no respect. We're defending freaking champs!

Sorry...anyway good for Marshall but I'm sad to see the Marshall vs. Liberty rivalry come to an end. Obviously McKay probably knew nothing about the incident between Macel, Doc, and Marshall in 2000 but he sure did stir the pot with the "Greg who?" comments. Oh well...

I prefer to think that Marshall knew McKay was going to do to him and got out while he had the chance.

What was the "incident"? Sorry, I'm not familiar with this.

After the game, Marshall was yelling at Macel in the tunnel and Doc stepped in. Obviously the situation deescalated very quickly and details at the time were sketchy. There were more incidents such as when some fans spilled (accidentally or intentionally depending on who you ask) spilled a cup of water on Marshall's pregnant wife. Then there was Chris Caldwell and Marshall verbally sparring during a stoppage toward the end of a game in the Vines Center. I may be getting my years mixed, but if I'm not mistaken all three of these incidents took place the same night in 2000 which was also the same night that the ladies were in Rock Hill. Even more, this was during Sarah Wilkerson-Farley's 5 game suspension her senior season. Those were the days.... :?

As I heard it, Jeff Meyer was the one that had to drag Marshall out of there.

One of their guys mentioned they should get Wojo.

Then they mentioned Cooper.

If Cooper goes to WU, he is getting the pee booed out of him in Lynchburg.

I might be end up being wrong on this, but I know Wojo and can't see him leaving Duke. I'm not so sure about booing Cooper either - Barber got his man in McKay and we all like what we see so far. Booing Cooper is essentially saying we don't like you because you didn't come here, so then you are also booing McKay.
