This will be fun as always. It seems like to me that this year is more wide opened than other years. Florida should be the odds on favorite since they won it last year.

How about UVa getting a #4 seed?! I didn't expect it. If UVa and Tennessee make it to the 2nd round, that could be a very good matchup.

My initial Final 4 picks are Georgetown, Florida, UCLA, and Texas A&M.

I'm really looking forward to the VCU/Duke game. Gotta pick VCU there, should be a good one.

Scorcho, this time of year it is about "survive and advance" Margin of victory is not a factor really even in the conference tournaments. Does anyone thing Winthrop is only a bucket better than VMI? The team that makes it to the final game in a conference tourney is usually playing really well and it is hard to beat them by a large margin. I think UNC is going to the Final 4 even with that tough bracket. They are very difficult to keep off the glass and you can win a lot of games pounding the ball inside and getting 2nd and 3rd shots every other possession. They defend well enough to get there.

Since I can't do anything at all with the pools, I have my own special ritual every year. I take a quarter and go down the brackets flipping heads or tails. Takes all the emotion and logic out of the equation. This year, we are working w/ a graphite laminate desktop as well as a 2000 US 25 cent piece commemorating South Carolina joining the union in 1788. There are a few smudges on it as well as a small nick on the face side but it is still legal currency and there is nothing on it that should alter or influence the results of physics and gravity.

And the quarter says:

Duke defeats Boston College for the 2007 National Championship

Final Four: Duke, BC, Tennessee and Jackson St.

Thank you and good night.

If UNC plays like they did against Arizona, they can beat anybody. If they play like they did at VT, they won't make the Sweet 16. Don't get me wrong, I hope the Heels cut down the nets in Atlanta.

I also can't wait for the "dook really overachieved this year" when they lose in whatever round. How much can you overachieve with six McD's All-Americans?

Are they All-Americans now? :(

Nope. Which oddly enough has happened quite a few times there. :)

I'm thinking you've missed my point.

Whether or not they were All-Americans in high school doesn't matter. By my reckoning, this is the least talented Duke team since the days of Danny Ferry. If they can get past VCU in the first round, I'll be happy. If they make the Sweet 16, yes, they'll have definitely overachieved.

And welcome to the board, bwall.

just finished my brackets. I hate it already. I do this to myself every year. But I normally do pretty well. I just hate the way it looks.

Thanks for the welcome.

As a note, I was born & raised in that area of North Carolina. I had two "friends" who were at one point recruited by K. One of them sat on the bench at a dook game & he left at half time. He didn't like K, the way he treated his players, & some of the things he said.

I would say the least talented since the days of Jason Williams, 2001. And, the 1999 team was loaded, they just lost in the final game to UCONN.

What I like to point out to others is, yes this is not as talented of a dook team as we are used to, but who is responsible for that? In other words, who recruited these players?

Can't argue that.
Hey, at least they were McDonald's All-Americans, right?

chicken or the egg? I'm 90% convinced McD's looks at who the person has committed to. Boateng was a bugerboy. I think Boykin may have been too.

Yea, I think that has something to do with it. Granted, not all burgerboys turn out to be great college players, but it is a pretty good measuring stick.

It's also funny that the two you mentioned are no longer there.

I really like Joe Pa. I like the classic uniforms; clean & sharp. I played football here in '99 under Coach Sam, so I know a little bit about college football. Joe Pa runs a great program & he is a class act. Much respect.

not sure where this topic is going...but last night I finalized my bracket and will stick with it...since I am kind of stuck with it...here are my final four teams....

Florida-UCLA

Georgetown-Ohio State

and I have Georgetown beating UCLA in the championship game....I am not sure why I think UCLA will even make it that far, but I think they are a good team and I just don't think Florida has it this year...

As for Ohio State...they made it because of how I saw different matchups along the way....I am not sure if they are one of the 4 best teams, but its never the 4 best that make the final 4 anyways

Why Georgetown?? I have seen then play 2 or 3 times the last few weeks and I think they have what it takes to win...I have been listening to espn radio today and I guess that is a more common pick then I thought....I try not to listen to the experts before doing my picks because they never are right anyways.....

as for some "Cinderella's" I have ORU making it to the sweet 16 then losing to Georgetown

I have Nevada going to the sweet 16 as well, but I am not sure if that would really shock anybody....

I have Winthrop beating Notre Dame and then losing Oregon in the second round....I don't think ND is that good, and though I hate Winthrop and hate all the love they are getting, they are a good team....but I would bet money that they won't be in the Sweet 16

Some of the tough games to call

Duke/VCU...Duke is not very good this year as we all know and VCU is playing pretty good basketball...I have Duke winning...barely....then they're out in the second round

Another tough one to call was the Tech/Illinois game...even though I don't believe Illinois belongs in this tournament....something about Tech has me questioning them...I am not sure if they have what it takes to win a game in this tournament...I do, however, have them winning this game....but then losing to Souther Illionis in the second round

Well, there is the summary of my bracket......I am prepared for the worst....

This year I had the hardest time filling out this bracket....it would be nice to win 25,000 bucks from facebook though....
