As for UT, the rumor mill is working overtime right now.

And if Texas is not the best gig in college football, I would love to hear an argument for any other school. I might accept discussions of ND based on perceived prestige. But that's realistically the only other option and even that is a stretch.
Texas sees his contract as a challenge not an obstacle. I will hold to my prediction. I think Gundy would also be a home run hire but I don't think thats happening.

I admit that 4 national titles is a bit of an embarrassment considering what should have been accomplished. One title in 16 years is why Mack is now going to be working the BBQ & golf circuit.

Thought this was funny from SI ...

Speculation is nuts in Austin. My connections over there are hearing a zillion different things.

I think Mickey was runner up in the Texas AD sweepstakes.

Who DOESNT like G Money? Best person in the Department (which could be the kiss of death for him!)

Seeing as Mack has been there for 15 years, they really haven't had the opportunity.

Art is the perfect candidate. He is practically worshipped by the HS coaches of Texas. That's how he was able to recruit so well at Houston & Baylor which were bottom shelf options before he arrived at both places. I know the media in Austin would love him. He was awesome to work with here in Houston. But I am still not sure it will work out due to that new contract in Waco that was structured specifically to keep him from Austin. The Baylor folks knew that was the one place where they could lose him and knew they couldn't afford for that to not happen.

And for SJ's benefit, Eric Taylor dreams he is Art Briles.

Had he not moved to Philly to support his wife, I have no doubt he'd be a college head coach and following in Briles' footsteps once Julie graduated HS.

Julie was a whiney baby. I'm sure they did a better job with Gracie Bell. It's been rumored and PA can weigh in here that Coach Taylor has won 5 Consecutive Catholic League St Titles from his Philly school.

JD would be a junior in college (or redshirt sophomore) and got beat out his senior season at QB by Vince, so I doubt he's playing anywhere.

I thought Daddy pulled him out of Dillon and sent him to Arnett Mead after the merger?

They are all rejoicing in an Austin-based TV series that is clearly gone but not forgotten. One of my LU buddies who is a weatherman in Austin appeared in a number of episodes as a booster dad. Then again, practically everyone I know in Austin has some FNL credits. I always loved spotting faces in the crowd.
