I heard something similar to that as well.

Additionally, I think Saban has accomplished all that he can at Alabama. What else is he going to do? Win more championships? And then what? He could win back to back championships again, and then one loos to Auburn will have fans PO'ed. In Texas, the fans don't take the rivalries as seriously. (That isn't a slight to the Texas/OU rivalry, but have you seen the Bama/AU rivalry? Death threats to a kicker??)

Texas has passionate fans but I've never heard of Texas fans poisoning trees, threatening kickers or fans throwing "pee sponges" on opposing fans (LSU). My point being, and I could be dead wrong about this, but I sense a little more relaxation in Austin than what's in Tuscaloosa. Don't get me wrong, UT is serious about winning and will put the pressure on. But the fans aren't going to crap on your lawn over one loss to an in-state rival either.
they will if its ou/tx and one is the #1 team in the nation and the other is the #3. nobody was crapping in peoples lawn last year when auburn was a turd.

Mallet, he said in-state, not hated out-of-state rival from hated other state ;-) Although, really, everywhere west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains should just be renamed "Flyover Country"

That's because Auburn was the crap is Saban's front-yard.

All kidding aside, I mentioned in-state rivalries, but even still, the OU/TX rivalry does not compare. I had a friend spend two years at Oklahoma and he would even tell you that their rivalry with Texas is nothing in comparison to Bama/Auburn. For the record, it shouldn't be as big of a rivalry either. The Bama/Auburn rivalry is unhealthy.

When Auburn lost to Bama last year, you still had fights break out after the game. That happens every year at the Iron Bowl.

OU and Texas have a distaste for each other, no doubt about that. But the worst thing you'll ever see in the Red River Rivalry is the firing of fake shotguns. Students/alumni at OU and Texas have a perspective that most students/alumni at Alabama/Auburn won't possess in their lifetime. That's the dirty/sad truth behind SEC football.

That is meant as no disrespect to Texas or OU football, both schools have passionate fan bases. But fans of both of those schools have lives outside of football. Auburn and Alabama fans live or die by how their football team performs.

You don't think people are tired of BAMA / SEC winning it all? You don't think that most of the interest in this story is over Saban leaving the SEC?

For what it's worth, I love the dominance of the SEC (I'm a Florida fan after all  ). But besides that, I'm a fan of dynasties; USC 10 years ago, Patriots, Lebron...etc. I just think people need to understand that MOST SEC fans take football way too seriously.

In other news, I saw where A.J. McCarron mentioned that Saban said he was staying. To which I would respond with: If that's the case, why didn't he sign last Friday?

I think Saban is staying, but I can't say that I am worry free. Saban not signing, however, makes perfect sense from the agent's point of view. If Texas is willing to spend X, they can ask Alabama for X (or X+1). The idea that BAMA can't match is ludicrous. With that said, there is a new AD at BAMA... Hopefully he doesn't screw it up.

An interesting side note: Les Miles has a "highest paid coach" clause. They might need some extra strength Bayer in the Bayou if Saban gets 10 mil (from either team).

Big money to Big Oil tycoons is not even worthy of a blink. Neither UT or LSU folks are worried about cost escalations for coaches. It might be a different story for boiled peanuts tycoons.

You don't think Alabama would throw more money at Saban if Texas outbid them? Coaches use this ploy all the time to get more money...

Apparently the contract was changed to "highest paid coach in the SEC" because Notre Dame and USC are private schools and don't disclose their coaches' salaries.

if you are talking about instate why even mention texas/ou then?

i'm not saying they are on the same level (they aren't total inbred slackjawed yokles) but its a pretty healthy rivalry. like i said, nobody was freaking out when auburn was 3-9 or even 8-5. the intensity of any rivaly is higher when stakes are higher. ohio/mich, bama/aub, or/osu, ou/ut etc.

No, he covered all his bases here by talking about how much he hates Nick Saban that way when he turned Texas down and can come on here and act like he doesn't care.

Genius!

There are some disappointed folks in Austin. Most everyone has turned their attention now to Jim Harbaugh. But frankly that is a bit of a reach at this point. I could now see another season of Mack for better or worse. I'm just glad I don't have to throw away any Horns gear in disgust.
